I would certainly NOT accept the insurance co's initial offer or comps. The recent unpleasant experience regarding my burned-up 951 led to a lot of good information coming my way from people in the insurance industry, lawyers and people that had simply just been screwed in the past.

I'll keep my eyes open for similar vehicles that you can use as the basis of establishing value.

You didn't have a U137 exclusion or similar "stated value" on the policy did you? Hopefully not. My saving grace was I never agreed to mine and never signed it - hopefully same for you.

an other thought re. dealing with the ins. company... if you have an agent they can usually get you past the first line of defense....if the first offer isn't fair.. if you work enough they will let you talk with the real guy/gal that can make the deal...there is commonly a senior person they have that can work outside the first set of numbers... depending on your energy/time level you can try that a bit before hiring the lawyer.... they really hate dealing with lawyers because, I guess, that means they have to have thier lawyers look at what your lawyer sends and that cost them $$$. That's what I did after I hit a dear and got crapped around for awhile... I just kept at it and they eventually got me to talk with the senior guy who was very nice and got me all fixed up.
In any case again very sorry this had to happen to you...and glad the car kept you from getting badly hurt....

I'm an EMS volunteer and a couple of months ago responded to an MVA where a motorcyclist went airborne on a sweeping, high-speed bend--he got launched by the Jersey barrier that separated the four lanes--and hit a large pickup truck coming the other way, center-punched the grille and hood up high, died instantly. The driver wasn't particularly affected, since he hardly saw it, just sensed it instantaneously, but his wife, in the passenger seat, had an awful view of it all and was totally traumatized. Having seen and talked to her in the ambulance, I have a small window into what you must have gone through.

Wow ... nasty damage. Your 911 looks like it did its job as the cabin appears unscathed. Glad you are ok.

Thankfully at least your vehicle was able to take it. I am however surprised a motorcycle could do that much damage, I guess its because it slide fast with great momentum. On a lighter note, Momo3.2 you just hit 901 posts so its your lucky day. God bless the rider and his family.

I feel fine. My poor car is not. There is a slight crease in the upper right corner of the rear window frame. I think this is an indication that the tub is bent. Second and fourth gear are not available. I think this means the engine and transmission were relocated. I loved that car, but there are more Porsches out there I could love. Like......one with race suspension and 3.6 already installed.

It's getting ugly out there. I'm glad I'm in hibernation.

we can hope this thread will make us think for a second about backing off a bit or taking a third look while on the road and maybe backing off a bit at the track during DE's.

Yesterday at the track while I was riding with another 3.2 driver the whole track was red flagged, so we all stopped of course. The tow truck and ambulance took off....
The problem for me was my son was in my car on the other side of the track where I couldn't see and that's where the emergency folks were heading. Talk about a pit in your stomach. All was ok for my son. A guy in a VW Jetta rolled. I can tell you this... the roofs of your basic car don't hold up to roll impacts. Guy is Jetta was fine, not hurt. Car a complete loss.
