Matching Numbers Locator

I thought it might be a good idea to start a data bank of engine and transmission serial numbers for the early cars 65' thru 73' that are no longer with their original chassis. With the value of these early cars rising the way they are having matching numbers can add substantial value to an early car.

The data base will provide for people seeking as well as people in possession of serial numbers that can complete cars. If someone is in possession of any motor or transmission that is not original to their chassis they can post here and if someone is seeking that particular motor or tranny they can get in touch and make an offer.

Having a matching number that someone is in need of could conceivably add a thousand dollars to the value of one of these units in market value.

I'll over see the updating of the list so feel free to send me a PM with the serial numbers you are seeking or that are in your possession. I guess for seeking just type WTB: xxxxxxxx. Any units that are not matching your chassis but in you possession type IPOS: xxxxxxxx

Of course no one has to sell anything they don't want to but it can't hurt if someone makes you an offer you can't refuse.

out of courisity how do you know what numbers your supposed to have?

You can tell just by the numbers if they are correct for your year and model but beyond that you need documentation.

In the past a Kardex issued by Porsche was the document that showed whether or not your numbers matched. Now a days they have a COA (certificate of authenticity) that is issued by PCNA for a fee (not cheap over $100). The COA's were fairly accurate when they first started being issued but they are a lot less reliable now a days. When one is wrong it's usually rather obvious though so I guess that's a good thing.
