Porsche Crest Converting 2.4l to 3.0l

Would any know where I could find documentation on converting my 1972 911T from a 2.4l to a 3.0L engine. Information on steps and parts required to do the job correctly.

depends on what you're doing for a 3.0. cis? carbs? actual engine install is pretty much a bolt-in. it's the ancilliaries that are the issue.

Andial used to sell sets of Mahle 95mm p/c made for the 2.7 Mg case. There were 2 types one w/ a wedge piston top for CIS/K-jetronic and another w/ domed pistons for MFi/carb.

These kits are problematic becase you cannot use case savers and special longer studs are needed. Of course the case also needs machiing to use these as well.

Add to that the problems that even 2.7 90mm p/c entail and I would advise against it.

If you want 3 liters start w/ a nice 930 al. case.

Are you asking how to swap engines or how to rebuild your 2.4L as a 3.0L?

The title of your thread reads like wanting to rebuild your 2.4 as a 3.0. In the body of your thread however it's seems like your asking how to convert your car from a 2.4L to a 3.0L motor. I'm pretty sure you want to do an engine swap.

Is your 2.4L motor original to the car? Does it have issues? The reason I ask is because if the motor is original to the car and still has it's MFI setup then your car is worth more with it's original motor. The MFI motors have a vintage character that is some what lost when you replace them with a larger CIS motor. Something to think about because a swap costs money and can de-value an early car all in one stroke. If you decide to swap and your 2.4 is a matching number motor then hang on to it and store it.

As far as what's involved it's fairly simple to switch them out. The fuel pump has to be switched, some of the wiring needs to be re-routed, fuel lines and oil lines need to be adapted as well but as far as engine swaps go it's one of the easier ones.

Here's a thread from a previous swap. In this thread however the car was a 71'. Your 72' is less work because you already have the correct clutch and the return fuel line.

3.0 CIS Engine Swap Complete
