loose part inside sill box section

When removing the rear seats on my 86 911, one of the outside seatbelt mounting bushings broke free and fell into the sill box-section.

I didn't really think much about it, until the bush started clattering around during an Auto X.

Any clever ideas how to get it out or at least fix (epoxy?) it in one position.

At the risk of sounding like a complete retard, what speaker holes?

I pulled out all the carpeting, sound deadening (that Porsche adhesive is GooD) and no speaker holes.

On the early cars I have worked on, you can get a magnet on a flex shaft in there with the rear tire removed. Take a flashlight and see if you can see where I'm speaking of below the door strike gizmo all the way at the bottom. It gets tight near the jack support, but there's a little room. Be sure your magnet is well attached or you will have two objects rattling in there While you're down there, clean up any caked dirt, etc.

Maybe I'm the moron? I assumed you had speakers on the shelf in the rear. Isn't that where the rear seat belt mounts are? Surely, you didn't lose a front seat belt mount down by the door sill, and then run an autocross?

I am referring to the rear lap belt, adjacent to your outside hip if you were able to actually sit in the rear seat. (drivers side)

I now have 5 points up front.

If all else fails, cut an access hole and weld the same piece back in or fill the cavity with expanding foam (which is a jury rigged solution, but maybe better than cutting a hole and rewelding.

OK, my question is do you think the thing is in the "sill box" as you call it? I'm thinking by that you meant the rocker ass'y. If that IS the case, the nut is probably gonna be hard to get to with a flex magnet. They don't turn 180* very well. I know this area pretty well.

Another trick is to use a powerful magnet and move the nut up with magnetic forces from the outside until you can grab it. There are just as many reasons why this won't work as there are that it will. You can only try.

I just noticed I have an access hole. Maybe yours does too. There is a rubber grommet that I removed and left in the pic:

Despite my poor description you guys figured it out; the rocker assembly is a much better description.

If I just knew where it had settled I would happily drill a hole and squirt in some epoxy.

I do not have the round access hole inside, I do have the smaller oval one but it has another panel right behind it.

Maybe I'll just bite the bullet and buy an access hole, Zoanas does yours have a part number? What kind of access does it provide?

No part number, it's just a rubber grommet placed into a hole. There is a matching one on the passenger side, too.

Have you looked at the duct in the driver's foot well that leads into the rocker? You might be able to get a long vacuum hose in there.

If the sill acts as a hot air duct, there may be a similar fitting in the boiler room which might be closer to my errant bolt. I will investigate.

No, no. The duct is sealed. Your part is outside of it, I'm sure. Maybe take the car out for a "test" drive and try to locate the noise. Perhaps you can shift the thing into a retrievable position under braking. Be careful when drilling any holes. Mark the spot and show us before you drill. A 1 inch hole saw is cheap.

I do appreciate all the help.

Presumable the part fell down to point A. Then it would wander back and forth between B and C.



Under braking is there any internal structure stopping it from heading to D?

Is there any other cavity in the B direction?

If I could get it to D, I could then cut a hole similar to this one and retreive or bond.
