one quart in 200 miles
i swear, this is the worst stem wear i've ever seem. one full mm undersize at the valve head end, not to mention the big notch toward the tip. you can see it in the pic, no micrometer necessary. funny thing is, someone recently had replaced just one intake guide. all that effort/money for nothing. this is kind of a follow-up reply to a previous post about "should i just fix one bad valve?"

Yikes. What was the related wear to the seat? Will that need replacement as well?

It is the reason why I elected to spend the $600 for a valve job done right, by German Precision, while I was that deep into the engine.

it's a '88 carrera with 130K. normal mileage where you would expect the guides to be worn enough to require a top end job, but occasionally they need one way earlier.

Dag ... I am at 1 quart every 250 miles!!
Some of that is due to oil leakage of course - valve cover bolts constantly drop oil on my headers. Can't wait to see what mine look like.

As to the other side of the fence: Thank God I've got about 30K on a top/bottom rebuild (complete),..AND, on the present run (my first) of Royal Purple MC 20W50 (as well as many others over the past year), I can say I add no more than 1/5 quart at 3K miles every stinking time......
....let's all bow our heads in a word of P-prayer.. Best,

Wow John.
You aren't kidding, you don't need a mic to see that! I would save that one to scare cheapskates with.

John, I'm hoping to be coming in for shocks before mid-January.
Don't worry. I'll have all of them done ![]() BTW, I'm 2000 miles into an oil change, and haven't had to add a single drop
