Stunning Porsche Carma Concept

Well, it's kind of technical...

A good friend of mine just sent me this - a Porsche concept by some French design students. I think it's fabulous.

Even if there are 0.001% chances this concept will ever be shown at a motor show and even less chances it'll ever go into production, however, from time to time, we like to feast our eyes on these design studies. After a few days ago we presented the Volkswagen Viseo, this time we show you the Porsche Carma. It was designed by four French students, which currently attend the Institute Supérieur de Design, located in Valenciennes, France.

The Porsche Carma was designed starting from the idea of creating an almost perfect aerodynamic sports car, which can also be used for every day trips. Not bad at all and congrats to the young dudes who created this, they are: Germain Baillot, Pierre Fichet Delavault, Julie Dicks and Simon Menu. If their teachers read this, give them all A+, they deserve it.

Check out the video on the website, amazing.

That is pretty cool. A bit of 911, a bit of Alpine A310, A bit of Koenisegg, ...

I like it ...

My humble opinion is that it looks great, but I would change the rear window and pillar such that the lower side runs more like the older 911's, more level and not kicked up into the pillar. I also would put in the rear glass. Without those changes, the rearend reminds me too much of the 350Z, especially in the first pic. Not bad though...

Interesting, and well-executed.

But I agree on the Nissan 350 comments, especially with the rear-end.

Too, I think the roof contour in the front in tandem with the windshield look a bit too much like the Grand Am Daytona Prototype greenhouses; cars that have a line I really don't like.

But, it's a good contribution towards advancing the car's design for sure.

No mirrors and no window in the back, how do you look behind you?

Do the French work with Germans? Unless the design students are working in conjunction with Porsche Design, the chances of these excellent concepts ever making it off the Zuffenhausen assembly line are zilch. Too bad. I like too.

I disagree, I don't think it looks anyting like a 350z. To me, it looks like a Ferrari and a 928 got it on... and I'm okay with that. The back of the car screams 928, I don't like whatever "cutouts" they have in it, that has to change, I don't see the point of them, it's like the whole tail section comes off or something, but... I'd buy it... it looks like a modern retro... but nicely done, not like the thunderbird or something like that.

Wait a minute.

I have seen pictures of a Porsche factory 'prototype' looking almost exactly like that. I think it was sometime back during the first or second model year of the 993. I also think I remember it was a design effort toward a new targa.

Anyhow, it does look good. Fresh, novel and spirited. Yet not over done.

I think the rear end is more 928.

As a student design excersize, it's superb. The front is right on but rear is too 350 Zish as noted. Parodoxically, the current iteration of the Z car appears to be emulating the 911, particularly in the rear. Very interesting, though.

The greenhouse has more of a Lancia Stratos thing, but I would want a rear window too. That, to me, is part of what makes a 911 so comfortable to drive, and no little screen will replace turning your head.
