Oil leak from under tank area of 2.0?

Right under my tank on the ground in the garage, I get a spot. Its a 2.0. I assume I need new lines or do are the fittings rebuildable with new o-rings?

You should always post the year of the car so help can be more specific.

You are describing the 'oil tank' I assume? Any leak should be readily traceable. Is there oil at the drain plug? (new seal needed).
Is it dripping at the oil line connections? (need tightened or lines replaced).

My 2.0 has no 'o rings' at the oil lines???

More info please.

Well, it could be the drain plug leaking, or either the suction hose or the pressure hose, or you could have a rust pinhole in the seam of the tank, or the level sender gasket could be leaking, or some combination of these.

Clean it thoroughly with soap and water, dry it off and coat it with a thin dusting of talcum powder, the source of the leak will show up readily.

In addition to what John posted you can add the O-ring under the oil filter console and it is not uncommon for the console to have coroded where it no longer supports the O-ring. Another possibility is the hose connection at the filler neck between the cap and tank.

A way to tell where it is leaking from is to look for any "clean' areas. As the oil leaks, it usually drains down (gravity) and back (air flow), leaving an area clean of dirt but slightly oily.

This might be a good excuse ti remove the tank, clean and inspect everything and replace the gasket under the level sender and the filter console O-ring. A design issue is the top of the tank naturally collects dirt off the rear tire. The space between the top of the tank and the inner fender then gets packed with dirt. When this gets wet, the top of the tank rusts.

Of course you regularly see posts about 'white foam' on the inside of the oil cap. That is emulsified water in the oil. this leads to the tank rusting from the inside, usually at the top. The cure there is to always get the engine hot and change the oil often.

Best,
Grady
