No Headlights! Switch/Lamps Good. Little Help Please?

'69 Coupe daily driver. All systems functioned properly until yesterday.

Started the engine, pulled the switch but got no headlights. Started to back up and headlights came on. No headlights since that trip.

I have power to the switch and the switch functions properly.
Power direct to fuse box illuminates low beams (probably high beams also).
Pull the turn signal stalk and get normal headlight flash function.
Push stalk for high beam and get nothing.

What do I need to check between the switch and the fuse box?

Probably Hi/Lo switch

I had exactly the same problem. The headlight switch (on/off) was fine. My problem turned out to be the hi/lo switch.

Looks like you're on the right track.

Key off. Headlight switch on and activate left or right turn signal and I get headlights!

Turn key to on. Headlights go off and turn signal functions normally.

Install the headlight relay kit and replace or repair the Hi/Lo signal switch.
This has been covered many times before.
Do a search on signal switch repairs, if yours isn't too far gone you can fix it.
Mine let the smoke out when switching between hi and lo. New switch, headlight relay kit, good to go.

Thank you.

My first search didn't turn up much but I've got it now.

In a pinch I can always swap the switch from another car.

That's one good thing about having 3 Pcars from the same year.

The problem will manifest itself again just swapping the switches.
Full headlight current is going through the small contacts in the switch. This is what is wearing it out.
The relay kit dramatically reduces the current, (Just a coil to switch) the switch should last a lot longer.

I'm hip to the current issue. The relay will be included in the repair.
The switch swap would happen if mine was not repairable.
It's my driver and it may take a few days to get a switch.

Thanks again for the quick reply. I've got an engine swap to start in on tomorrow and I have very little time to spare.

My search didn't find any mention of this variation.
Apparently the contacts in the switch for 69 & 71 aren't readily accessible.

Here's what I have. The contacts are inside but visible. Has anyone disassembled one of these ?
