MFI overhaul reccomendation
Hi, I have 1971 911E and need to overhaul the MFI system There are multiple vacuum leaks and worn parts. As far as i know, no work has been done to the system since the car was new (36 years). I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and was hoping someone could recommend a good reliable shop to take it to for fixin. A place called Po Boy's in (fruitvale?) was recommended, but cant seem to find any contact info, anyone ever hear of them?

I think Gus at Pacific Fuel Injection is one of the most recommended resources.

Gus Pfister is the go to guy for pumps and injectors in your area. Last I knew he did not rebuild throttle bodies, though.

It depends on what's worn out.
"Multiple vacuum leaks and worn parts" on a '71 implies that there's something wrong with the throttle bodies or the stacks. This could be as simple as changing the gaskets or as complex as having the throttle bodies rebuilt by somebody like Matt Blast at www.eurometrix.ws. What else is worn out? If you click in David's signature line you will find the "Ultimate MFI thread" that has many links to the various subsystems: pump, thermostat, speed switch, stacks, throttle bodies, correlation, etc. If you can identify what's acting up, or at least post the symptoms, we can steer you to the right sources to fix everything. I am not aware that there is as extensive an assembled collection of MFI information OR experienced operators anywhere in the world other than right here, so WELCOME to the forum.

"Yes" to everything above. Gus is definitely the guy for pump rebuilds. If you are also looking for a shop that can help you with the overall project, Billy McNair at European Performance in Novato (415-382-8394) is excellent.

The essential difference between Pacific and Fairchild is not performance. It is the level of restoration. Fairchild is less money and rebuilds pumps to work, not as a show piece. Pacific does a perfect job on both aspects using freshly plated parts for completely restored look.
From what I've seen on MFI, they can get worn, but I bet a lot of pumps are "rebuilt" needlessly. You should see the inside of these things. They are built like tanks. Throttle shafts are another matter. So is the linkage. |

David - I don't see Holleran's in Pinole, CA, on the Early 911S list. Any particular reason? I thought they were supposed to be quite good with MFI.

I don't know why it was left off and since I've never heard of them I can't make a recommendation one way or the other (maybe others will chime in). They do have a website, Hollerans Performance, but there is no mention of MFI on it. Anyone familiar with their work?
