Wow, the 1973 911 Carrera RS was actually called the 911SC 2.7, here's proof!

A picture is worth a thousand words, here's a photo:

SC was the corporate internal code for the RS 2.7

"R" origins

Great find, Wayne!

Not to hijack this thread, but is "RSR" redundant?

I was under the impression that "RS" stood for "Renn Sport". "Renn" translated loosely to "racing" or "motorsport". I read somewhere that the final "R" in "RSR" stands for "racing". ( both Ludvigson and Frere fail to mention the origin of either "RS" or "RSR" terminology )

So does that mean that an "RSR" stands for "racing sport racing" or "racing racing"?

And isn't it a bit odd that they would use German for the first "R" and English for the last "R"?

Was "RSR" ever an official designation? The factory RSR's I have seen have a rear badge that says "RS" but never "RSR".

RS was race oriented but street legal
RSR was track only and built to a class rule

If you look at the engine compartment stickers of any of the Carrera's thru '77 you will see the SC designation for their engines as well

This goes along with the 73 Carrera VIN plate having the "SC" in the type block.

I've no idea about the origins of RSR but the factory did use that nomenclature. You'll see it on parts lists and other factory publications. They didn't make an RSR badge though.

They're not shy about using that nomenclature today though...

Besides BV's post above, IIRC, the origins of RSR and RS had to do with class 4 & 5 racing. The one the RS was built for (5?) required a street legal car.... stock car racing, if you will.

The 3l Carreras and the 3.2s up to '86 were SCs as well.
