Obligatory Dropped Engine Pic

OK...finally got the nerve up to try this. The inspiration was the board saying I could do it and getting quoted 8-10k for a valve job. It was a little nerve wracking but managed it by myself and really had no problems other than just not being sure I'd done it correctly. Wayne's Book(s) are invaluable.
Now with the incessant questions which will surely follow.

Hey Buck, way to go!! Now, to get you an engine stand and yoke.....

I'm doing my test drive on the new engine tomorrow, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, they are available for use.

Now that the engine is out the real fun begins. How long has the "while I'm in there" list gotten so far?
From the pics that I have seen over the years, it appears that most of us have very good taste in beer.

Congrats on the engine drop! Good luck on the "while I'm in there"

Good observation on the beer. I can't seem to find a Pale Ale I like better except maybe Langanitas, also from California. You Cali guys are lucky...for a LOT of things.
Just to update, the engine is out and down to basically the long block. There's no rush now that my wife talked me into getting an Audi A4 since I always seemed to be "fixing" something on the 911, and another summer with lame A$$ a/c was not going to work.
FYI, I'm doing extensive searches and following Ed's rebuild so as not to reinvent the wheel, but no doubt I'll have some questions.
With that in mind, I've noticed light rust on the pressure plate and flywheel...can I just remove this with a Scotchbrite? I had the idea to clean it up and spray WD40 on temporarily then remove it with brake cleaner...stupid idea?
Also trying to read, and re read, all the posts on re ringing alusils p/c's without asking what should I do. Actually, I don't even yet know which I have, alusil or nikasil, but trying to plan ahead.

I'd bet you've got Nikasils...

How about the stand and yoke?

not stupid - that will be fine -- may not need the WD-40 tho

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is good beer -- we even drink it up here (in the Land of Brew Pubs - think I saw something in the news that we have now exceeded the pub density for Germany).

However, you should only drink beer from a bottle in an emergency. Otherwise, drink it right from the tapped cask.

BTW - anyone else noticed that the front trunk of a Boxster is exactly the right size to hold a keg?

Ed, I did not want to bug you on the stand and yoke till you got Ruby back on the road. I can head over any weekend you are going to be around. Just send me a PM as to what the best time would be for you.
Thanks again and I appreciate the offer.
Rory, what is that if it's not beer?

OK...I'm stuck. Thanks to Ed I now have the correct Porsche engine yoke but when I slide it onto the large bolts on the oil radiator side it won't go past the flange on the crossover pipe for the heat exchanger! I tried the other side and it still bumps into the crossover pipe. I've clearly seen pics of guys using the yoke with heat exchangers on so this has me very confused and frustrated. Ed gave me some tubes but they are not the same length so I was assuming they go on the outside to take up some of the slack when I thread the nuts back on after the yoke is snugged up against the case. At first I thought maybe I'd bent the HE's when it was sitting on the ATV jack but the "look" fine to me.
Any suggestions??
Thanks

Hmm, not sure about the interference with the crossover. You're correct in that the spacers go on after the yoke to take up slack on the studs. I've not used it with standard HE's just my headers, but it is an "official" Porsche yoke. Maybe a pic or two?

Thanks for the reply Ed. I was going to take a pic but for some reason my digital camera seems to have stopped working. I'm going to keep working on it to see if maybe I'm just doing something wrong. I may have to figure out a way to get the crossover tube off but the nuts are pretty rusted and not too easy to access but I may not have any option.
Just to clarify, does it matter which side the yoke is placed? I see there is a cut out for the oil radiator but it may be a little easier on the other side.

EDIT...it looks like if I removed the large lower bolt for the tranny mount and THEN put the yoke on it would work since I'd be able to maneuver the lip of the yoke past the flange for the crossover pipe and then put the bolt in and snug it up. I noticed on a couple of pics that some were using regular bolts to hold the yoke on the engine as opposed to putting shims and tubes on the large tranny bolt. Are these tranny bolts secured with Loctite or something? They seem to be pretty tight.
Thanks,

You gotta remove the cross over pipe. no other choice there.

Is that normal or is there something amiss with my situation? I'm in the process of grinding off the bolts I can get to but a couple are going to be a real PITA to real to get them removed. I did get the flywheel off, thanks to Ed's 12 bit hex he loaned me. Still needed a good amount of heat and my electric impact wrench. Can't imagine doing that any other way.
