Windshield antenna connector - anyone know what it looks like?

Hi all.

I recently had the front wings (fenders) on my 72 car replaced and asked the body shop not to fit an antenna where the old one was on the right wing.

Instead, they replaced the windshield with a tinted embedded-antenna type, but didn't connect the old stereo up to it, so I have to do it.

I would like to buy the bits I need now as I have some time to kill - I am in the US, but the car is 3500 miles away in the UK. I don't know what the connector for the windshield antenna looks like, but I do know that it is supposed to be used with some signal amplifier, which, after reading some other posts on here, I understand is junk. So I probably won't bother with it.

Does anyone have a picture of the connector in the windshield, or know of an adapter that would let me run it to to the stereo (just an early 70s Blaupunkt FM unit)?

If you run into a dead end we sell a "hidden antenna" that will solve your problem. It is small and easily hidden behind the rear view mirror. A thin coax lead w/12 volt lead for the amplifier can be hidden along the edges of the windshield and the Motorola plug is correct for your Blaupunkt. Only $35 + shipping (sold elsewhere for up to $79) this is an AM/FM antenna not just FM.

Can that antenna be mounted in another location besides by the rw mirror and with good reception? I would like to mount it out of view like under the dash for example.

that 35$ will be cheaper than all the stock stuff.
there are pics spmewhere I've seen, lots of BS running that small wire for the oem amp, in a cramped place also.

the windshield ant + amp works as well as any other. I bet lots of them out there aren't even connected right, hence the comments

No, cannot be mounted under the dash. Metal is the enemy of all antennas and you want as high as possible for best reception. Along the A pillar of the windshield or up high on the front or rear glass are the suggested installs. Antenna comes with sheet of installation instructions and suggestions. FWIW, I tried this antenna and did not have any luck with it. It's sitting im my tool box if anyone want to give it a try. (free - just pay shipping)

Do a search for the "tune trapper" here. People seem to have had good luck with it.

I think I still have the connector I cut off mine. Idiot installer left it hanging above the dash. (I wasn't planning on using it anyway but it looked like crap laying on the dash ) Will post a pic when I find it.

had the same thing happen to me. I have the windshield off again today to install a new dashpad. The antenna in the glass runs to a terminal at the bottom right corner. The fellow who installed mine must have just cut the wire off as there is nothing there now to connect to the radio. There is no hole at the base of the window in that location thru which to run the wire, so perhaps this is why he just cut it off.

Interesting... the guy who did my car ran a wire from the connector plug along to the middle of the dash, then through a hole to the underside of the dash. This is where I could supposedly attach it to the stereo. I dunno I'd rather just get the right connector / amplifier (if not too expensive) and do it properly, seeing as I paid the equivalent of $700 for the screen anyway.

I know I need to whip the thing out and check myself, but if there's a special connector I need and someone can tell or show me what it is, I'd prefer to find it whilst I'm in the States. You guys have it so good with prices, esp with the exchange rate at the moment. I spent today at the mall fueling the US economy. Nice

Mark - if you can get a picture, I'd be really grateful. Otherwise it's the $35 aforementioned antenna thingy and the sodding screen goes on eBay...

Great! Cheers for that Mark. Looks like 1.5mm phono or something pretty standard. I wonder if anyone does a straight connector from that to the standard radio aerial socket (ie. bypassing the Bosch booster thing).
