removing cooling housing strap

I can't seem to remove the strap for polishing. Should it just slide out of the two slots at the bottom? I don't want to force anything without making sure that's all that needs to be done.
Thanks

Yup,, puzzle. Take out the distributor. Wiggle, curse, add a little oil, wiggle some more and keep the kids away.

Hey Mark, you could always go with one of these stainless beauties from Rennline! Unfortunately, I don't think is would "pop" unless the fan housing was powder coated.

Anxious to see your work after all put back toegther. Looks great so far.

I took my time wiggling it out, w/dizzy removed, to prevent creasing it from bending.

Yep! Turn the engine to Z1 with the rotor pointing to the notch in the distributor housing.
Pry on the bottom of the distributor with the L-end of a small pry-bar straight up.

Good time to service the distributor.

Distributor service (Clean and lube) real easy without removing the pinion gear!
