Would you consider this an incomplete repair for a missed shift?
Looking at a 79 SC that had this repair completed for an "over rev" less than 1K miles ago? Would you consider this a complete repair, or a fix it on the cheap then sell it and let the buyer deal with the consequences?
Thanks ![]() |

This is a complete repair, but not a complete rebuild. If the compression and leak down test are now done with good results then the repair was a good one.
If it were my car, I would not have done it that way, but, it is not my car.

HI psjoe
If you are looking to bye/purchase this car ???? and with a bill like that and NO BIG END bolts on the parts list !!! NO NO NO , I would consider the engine a lottery ticket waiting to come up. *Looking at a 79 SC that had this repair completed for an "over rev" less than 1K miles ago?* I would say it is a expensive cheep job "fix it on the cheap then sell it and let the buyer deal with the consequences" regards mike

this will not answer your question but,
looks like they double charged for the same thing. isn't "perform leakdown test on engine" covered under "diagnose engine missfire due to driver over-rev"? after all, the owner must have told the repair shop that he over-reved the motor. the first thing you would look for is a bent valve. yes, i would consider it, depending on price of course

Thanks-
The repair was from a reputable shop. I called them and they confirmed the valve repair. My worry was other potential issues like rod bolts or rockers failing in the future from the over rev. On a side note the car seems well maintained the seller provided the following list of repairs. The over rev repair is not noted in his list. Car now has 115K mi. on it. He is asking $15K which I feel is too high. 1979 911SC Porsche purchased November 1997 mileage 89,300 recent work before purchase… Valve job Engine studs Rings Pop-off valve Chain tensioner upgrade Rear brakes After purchase… Front calipers - 6/98 - 90640mi Front pads Front rotors Brake hoses (4) Hood seal All widow seals - 9/98 – 91,400mi Door seals Windshield Front “smile” Power antenna Headliner Sunroof seal CV joints - 10/98 – 92,135mi Boots Valve Adjustment - 4/99 – 92,726mi Valve gaskets Ignition wires Plugs Distributor cap Rotor Oil (10W40) & filter Smog filter Fuel filter Engine belts Dunlop tires 8000 K & N air filter Main oil lines – 9/99 Many seals & gaskets – 4/4/01 – 98,300mi Oil tank sender & gasket Many cover gaskets August 2003 102,000mi Replaced shocks & struts - Sport Bilsteins HD Replaced steering rack Install turbo tie rods March 2004 104,400mi Lowered car Heat exchangers Right front spindle March 2005 Replaced Left rear caliper July 2005 Replaced Front rotors April 2005 Replaced Right rear caliper Installed 944 Turbo seats – Driver side powered February 2006 113,000mi Replaced seals on front calipers Replaced bushings front and rear anti-sway bars Replaced Left front spindle Replaced fronts inner & outer bearings Replaced all rear drive bolts Replaced brake lines Replaced brake hoses with braided steel Paint calipers March 2006 113,689mi Replaced CV Joint Bolts Replaced Trans flange seals May 2006 114,017mi Replaced Clutch Disc (Sachs Sport Disc) Replaced Pilot Bearing Replaced Seal & Selector Shaft Replaced Main Bearing Resurface Flywheel June 2006 114,200mi Rebuilt Alternator August 2006 114,553mi Valve Adjust Replaced all brake pads December 2006 115,000mi Rebuilt odometer Replaced odometer gear Have factory “short shift” kit (uninstalled) All upgrades. 15K is high for a 79 SC.

The poor bastard probably has $25K into the car but $15K is on the high end unless it is super clean and cherry with zero big dollar issues (as found on a PPI).
