Color help
OK folks, I need some help with a color. I have a "Hester, but not exactly" opportunity getting ready to happen. I'll be brief: At my Grandmother's funeral, an elderly cousin of mine noticed we drove 2 different 911's to the wake & funeral. He pulled me aside and said "You know my brother still has his 911 he bought back in '72...it's been garaged and covered since day 1, but he's too old to enjoy it anymore"...I finally contacted him, and yes, he still has it but has done a few things over the years. He changed out the front bumper in the late 70's for a fiberglass dam (but kept all of the original parts). During this time he also had the color changed on a bare-body respray. The car was originally signal red (orange) with silver trim...He changed the color to what he said is "Meteor Metallic" and went with black trim (yes, he has all of the original trim as well).
It looks as if I might be able to get this car and start a labor of love in restoring it. (Of course I'll have to go through the engine as it has 160K miles and he says it uses a little oil)...We spent over an hour on the phone today with me listening to him relive days of 100MPH+ cruising and how he's always loved this car... Does anyone have a picture of what meteor metallic looks like on a longhood?(I seem to remember a somewhat pewter color with that name, and he said it's darker than the current meteor gray metallic). I will eventually want to go back to the signal red whenever I strip the body, just wanting to know what it will look like in the interim. He's saying he'll try to send me some pictures. Can you tell I'm on cloud 9 waiting for a "family-owned longhood"? Any help will be appreciated, as will be the advice I garner during the upcoming adventure/restoration.
