Tranny issues - strike two!

Hello experts

I currently have my motor out to deal with some oil leaks so I thought I might try again to take care of a transmission issue. Can someone provide some assistance or areas to check? I must let you know this would be the third time I will break into the tranny. The first time, using this board, I replaced sliders, syncros, dog teeth. The second time I tried to correct this current issue and I added the wevo one piece Bearing Retainer Plate . It did not correct the issue. I have grown tired of tearing into it but with the thought of the right assistance directing me to resolution is giving me momentum.

Symptom:
When I stop at a light with the car in neutral and the clutch in, more often than not, I cannot easily slide into first. However, it will easily slide into first if I release the clutch while in neutral and put the clutch back in. Then it slides into first easy every time. It seems like something is not in perfect alignment until I cycle the clutch. This issue is on the minor side but very annoying. Also, there is no grinding or noise. Any suggestions or ideas are appreciated.

Car:
1979 911 sc 153k

Thank you in advance

If it were me, I'd learn to live with that. I generally put it in first while it's still rolling which seems to make it easier, then put it back in neutral if I'm going to remove my foot from the clutch. Maybe I've just got used to the 915 "quirks" and learned to live with them but it all seems to normal to me now. I'm relatively happy with the way it shifts now but it used to drive me crazy .

Thank you for your responses

Yes shifting into 2nd or first does the trick but I would like to think our cars were designed not to require this. I would like to believe something is out of speck and can be repaired. Yes no?

I know that on my G50, when cold, that sliding here into 3rd (first) THEN into 1st is quite easy than trying 1st immediately (AGAIN,..just when she's cold)..
..I never shift into 1st when rolling./.....

Best,

I have learned to play the game the 915 seems to like playing. I really don't think about manner of having to sift it a certain way anymore. I guess you get used to the "feel" of each different 915 fairly quick, once you have been using one for a while. I can shift into 1st while slowing down, something below 10-15mph I guess, but I normally don't.

I see that you have been around here since 2005, and just had your third anniversary, but few post. This would lead me to believe that you have had your 911 for a good bit of time. There may be something that is actually wrong. Has it done this all the while since you have been driving it? Or is it something that has manifested itself after a period of time? Hope you get it worked out. Good luck!! Tony.

That's not the case, and every 915 is slightly different in its level of quirkiness from every other 915. RWebb and bourgeois911 have said it well, and if you have done your work correctly (synchro/slider/adjustment) consider your issue nature of the beast. Sometimes oil type can help - never use synthetic trans oil in a 915. Many posters prefer Swepco, I like dino Kendall 3-Star 80W/90.

Both my 911 (with a 911 transaxle) and BMW do this. I thought it was normal.

Are you coming to a stop in neutral with the clutch in while rolling? I always engine brake (usually mildly) to a stop, shifting into first while rolling about 5 mph. I then hold the clutch in at the stop. I therefore avoid the balky first problem almost all the time. The few times it does happen it seems to be in my BMW E21 when I think I select first but only go halfway into the gate (no jokes, please). I hear the gears spin up as I let the clutch out but there is no wheel turning. If I try to go all the way to first (seriously) it grinds. If I go back to neutral plane and cylcle the clutch then go to first, it is good.
