Conversation with WONG
I wanted to let all of you know of my conversation with Steve Wong today.
Obviously, I'm interested in changing the stock chip for the apparent reasons. Being an EE (and NOT a P-wrench: I DO know the difference), I really hammered Steve with 100 questions. He really came through for me,..especially as related to ping/knock issues......Very customizable programming, if needed (Republican/Democrat..be it rev limit or advance.....) AMAZING!!! Good discussion about many things...It was funny to hear the relief in his voice to know that he had a very attentive owner at the end of the other line (i.e.:: No vacuum leaks,,,new hoses throughout, ICV recently cleaned/lube/all Bentley specs dead on,.....AFM cleaned,..measurements dead on....new rotor, dist. caps, plugs (frequently).....seemed to be a consoling part to him...I told him that I would have the CO2 checked by my wrench and set idle.....THEN we would install... \ (it would seem that he encounters owners who are NOT up on their maintenance? GRANTED: I have a #1 plug that appears to be crossthreaded by P.O. (A REAL *****,....I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS PORSCHE MECHANICAL (LAYMAN) GENIOUS )ME) DIDN'T SNAP IT OFF))))))))))))))))))))))))...Further, I can't believe that the P=wrenches (a couple of 'em) didn't do it either......I gained much respect for James Robert's Automotive after returning the car with the informative advisory and COMPLETELY RUNNING PERFECTLY,..STILL not being the GORILLA and breaking something..................(all of a sudden ) I need an engine drop to timecert it.... (all hail the dreaded #1, still providing enough spark so as to NOT negatively impact performance...my time will ultimately come...........yeap: while you're in there,..,,..,.,.,.,.,....my shoe traction is "slipping"...I may be on the slippery slope (clutch work (BIG TIME)). I'm not (yet) a DE or AX kinda guy (even after a year, [[[I know]]] however, I ASSURE you that I wring her (and me) out frequently and have discovered very specific driving requirements that demand attention) and this '89 S.A. Edition 3.2L is BONE STOCK...... After the absorbed threads within this fine group, I've decided to go get the chip and have a see. I'm comfortable with the statistical renditions from this group and will proceed. I must say (with all due respect) that I've monitored EVERY thread that involved Loren's posts,...even when it really got frictional (almost)... Being an electronics guy myself, I've always picked up on Loren's takes ( mechanics aside, as I don't declare myself an expert in any way) there's no question Loren understands the electronics of it ALL (mechanics, too). Once you sift through the bullshieat, one can tell that his (baseline) comments warrant further investigation (at least, by the layman...) I can't (and won't speak to communication ettiquite nor economically-driven comments). Inanycase,..I loaded Steve with questions,...all answers being completely acceptable ...I'm looking for part-throttle improvements,...not some high end Dyno run...(not a racer here). I'm shocked to discover the inadequacies of dyno technologies to capture partial response dynamics (WTF?) As well,...should there be knocking/pinging issues, shouldn't one be able to capture the event, even WIHTOUT knock sensors in place? Are there NOT other ways to capture/measure this phemonina..?...or must it happen it a certain way (i.e.,: knock sensors & need for physical proximaty?) ((((((((((((((WTF))))))))))))))) Obviously there exists some improvements to be had with Steve's chip (at least, based on MANY comments) isofar as partial throttle response curves.......NOT top side stuff, as I don't track it.... ....that's what I'm up for, for now..... Good conversation with Steve,..just like MANY have ALREADY stated in commentary...it's quite true. A very patient gentleman who's quick to share his extensive experience. I may add, in closing, that Steve did mention (acknowledge) Loren's experience in the field (which was LONG before Steve ever started) in a VERY respectable way (as I beratingly questioned Steve on Loren's points)...I was impressed by Steve's respectful response....in no way diss'g Loren....I even enticed it,...yet Steve remained quite professional and most courteous.. In today's world,...I'ts exactly what I need, insofar as comm/dialogue...what a great starting point...I can draw my own conclusions as to "goal achievement", just send it back...... Thanks to all for your inputs (and experiences) as related to this changeout. I really must throw Loren a thanks for his take......equally, I thank Steve for his time today......I wish we could be less caustic with our verbage sometimes. ...both of these fellows are experts in their field.....debates aside. Holostic approach, gentlemen. Happy New Year to ALL Pelicanites!!!!!!!!!!!! Best,

Engine Lid Struts...
Howdy, I was ready to reinstalled my gas struts on the engine deck lid and see that there are two holes on the package tray (forward) end of the mounting bracket, which hole do you use? 1. Upper or lower or does it make any difference.
2. I also noted in the PET manual that the cylinder and not the rod face to the rear, does this make any difference? It nearly seems like the cylinder end would be happier forward with the rod facing aft. 3. I don't see in the PET any parts for the right side deck lid attachment. The bracket is a single bracket with a captive 6 MM nut. You can't tighten the 6 MM bolt to tight or the rod end won't rotate, what keeps the bolt from backing out? Thanks,
