msd 6 al

I have a msd 6al and there is sticker on the side that states, "Do not use with solid core wires" so what can I do? My wires are solid core, stock Beru wires. 1969 911 2.0 I am not planning on racing just a stock set up using the msd box and hi-vibration coil and tach adapter. Do I need different wires?
Thanks Rob

I wouldn't use stock wires with MSD.

If you use solid core wires, you won't use them long....they'll pinhole and/or burn out....

Just ordered the Clewett wires, thanks for the information. I knew there was going tobe a problem with the old wires when I opened the box and read the warning....
Thanks Rob

I drove a 930 across the country with stock wires and an MSD - worked fine.
Maybe MSD doesn't want you to use wires that don't have resistance?
"Normal" wires use some sort of conductor that has a certain resistance to it. The stock/Beru wires have a resistor in the plug connector.
If only Warren was still alive, he'd know. (Sniff)

MSD doesn't want EMI to interfere with their ignition controls. You can supress EMI in either of two ways. Through resistance or neturalizing the magnetic field by creating a wire spiral carring voltage around a magnetic core.

Resistance lowers the tail end of the spark and/or lowers frequency depending on who you ask.

Some pelicanheads have reported failed factory Beru wires and damaged rev limiting rotors when using MSD. The Beru plug connector has a group of connectors carring the voltage. Warren and Loren have discussed this issue.

My bottom line is that any age or weakness in either is a problem waiting to happen. I use spiral wire and the simple rotor pn 93060290102. JW says it's the 1972-77 VW rotor. Pelican Parts lists it as Bos-04038

Ok for real. How much difference from the CDI box do all you MSD guys notice? My CDI works fine, but my low end power sucks. Below 3K its pretty sluggish.

I don't know how much of a difference the msd will make but I got a good price and a complete setup. My car has a lot of missing items and I decided to go with a solid package instead of piecing it together.

Huh? Do you imply this in the context of using solid core wire with an MSD or just in general?

Hmmm. Must be the holes in the insulation caused by voltage "spikes"?
