Wiring window switches

Evening everyone I put on a new door stop this evening and am trying to get the wires connected back up to the switches. I must have the passenger side messed up as it won't go up. It will go down. I have done a few searches and found good information, (like if the drivers side isn't working properly the passenger won't either, which is the case). And I have a Bentley manual.
THe answer I can't find is this. I know the terminals are numbered and were the colors go, what I don't know is which terminal is 1, 2 etc. etc. The manual shows 5 being on top down to 1 but is 2 the right or the left. It's tigher than a tick in a teddybear in there and I can't see if there are even any numbers on the switch itself. Anyway, thanks in advance.

Mark, I have a couple of diagrams that I kept handy for this very thing. For the pass door, my diagram shows 5 points. Top row; red/wh and brown; next row blu and blu/blk, and the bottom one is red/blk. The drivers door pass switch is; double red and brn; red/wh and red/blk, and the bottom is double red and one of the wires is squiggly (my car).

I think I was reading these as I look over the switch when it is pulled out.

If you need I can pull one and take a peek.

Hope this helps. DT

Dan, thanks for the reply, the manual says, (for my 84'), red/white 3, black 1, brown 4, green 2, and red/black 5 with 5 being on top. My switch is 1 on top, 2 middle, and 2 bottom. Again, I just don't know what numbers correspond to the actual connectors.

I was just looking at the manual, our cars should be wired the same. They do show two schematics one for 84' & one for 85' but for the passenger window switch wiring is the same, (maybe my switch is upside down).

Mark, I found a spare switch. Here you go. With the 2 prongs on top and you facing the prongs, 5 on top left and 4 top right. Next 2 and 1 and 3 on bottom.

Good morning Dan, again thank you for looking into this. But my switch is 1 top, two middle, and 2 on the bottom. I'm going to pull the switch and see if it's numbered.

Got the switch out & with a magnifying glass I can see the terminals are numbered. I'll take a picture of it later and mark the numbers fro anyone else that may have this problem, again thanks Dan

Just confirming that the switch pins are numbered. It would have been so easy if they had used connector blocks like almost all other manufacturers do. I have been down that road when I had to find out why the windows weren't operating correctly. I think that I made an enlarged schematic of the switches and wiring at the time. Good luck!!

look at the sc wiring diagram here on pelican the switch layout has not changed in years and should help you visualize the hookup.

ok gotter done Thanks to all. I did encounter another problem. After writing down the numbers from the switch on a piece of paper and writing the corresponding colored wires I went down stairs got it all hooked up and the window went up pushing down and visa versa. Thought I had the switch upside down, redid, and didn't work at all. Came back up and re-read a thread Johnny Walker had commented on a few months ago that the two middles wires actually run the motors. I took the switch back out and put it in the original way with one terminal on top. I reversed those wires and presto, Correctly working windows!!!!
So my point to all this... I believe my Bentley manual is wrong. The scamatic shows the red/white wire going to #1 and the red/black going to #2. The window works backwards with the wires that way.
Anyway just an FWI

Now go look over on Rennlist and search for lighted BMW light switches and do 'em all over again!

Yes, those appear to be the same window switches as in my 750iL. I saw his mod on this, looked really nice!
