Is pin 14 (Red B+) needed in the chassis wiring harness?
I have a question - is pin 14 (red B+) of the 14 pin connector located in the engine bay actually needed for a very simple wiring configuration? This question is probably useful for most of the aircooled 911 years but in my instance it's relating to a '77 chassis.
I don't think it is. I've been working on wiring recently and I think pin 14 is only used to provide power from the alternator to the rear fuse panel and relays. If I'm not running a heater blower motor, rear defrost, etc. can I remove pin 14 from the 14 pin connector of the chassis harness? Thanks for the help. |

HI Scott
you can remove the wire and you will then loose power in to the engine bay, no power to the engine components and the rear window. I would leave the wire in, as it then supply's power into the engine bay which you can then use, timing light, MSD box, hand lamp, 12v Co% tester, test light. regards mike

Yeah I thought about the lack of 12v power in the engine bay if I remove that wire - especially for a timing light and test light. No MSD box needed - I'll be running a 3.2 with DME and the ignition power comes from the DME harness. I'm just not a big fan of leaving large 12v wires exposed that aren't used in normal driving. I will be running a LM-1 wideband O2 meter. In my last car I used power from the battery for the meter and I may do the same for this car. Thanks for the response. |
