Don't laugh, but

Has anyone ever put a set of Fuchs on a different car, other than a 911? I really like the looks of them and would love a set (or set of knock-offs) on my Jeep. I'm assuming that they're made for low-to-the-ground sports cars, that it wouldn't work if I put them on my Jeep, but I'd like to one day give it a try.

Of course I didn't think of backspacing and all that...just wondering if anyone's ever done or seen it?

I know a 15" or 16" wheel would fit on my Jeep as the wheels on there now are 15x8s.

Thanks,
Katie, the girl with the crazy imagination

911 use a 5x130 lug pattern and the jeep uses a 5x139.7 pattern

So adapter will be needed for the lugs and then what ever backspacing adapters as well. Could be done I am sure but not sure you would really want to and I failed to mention caliper to wheel interferance would have to be checked as well

Thank you! That's very helpful! I also think it would be neat to get a set of 944 phone dial wheels, paint 'em black, and put them on...might be cheaper than the Fuchs...

Even if you adapt the lug pattern so that you could bolt up the fuchs or the phone dials you are going to a more narrow wheel (unless you buy some expensive 8 or 9" fuchs) and depending on what size and type of tire you are running you may just be wearing out tires faster and making the Jeep handle (more) poorly. If you were totally set on putting fuchs on your Jeep you could check into getting fuchs that were converted to three piece wheels so that you could change the width and backspacing of the wheel to suite your application but this would be expensive.

I believe the 944 uses the same lug pattern - don't know the back spacing but I do know they are different

OK thanks. But my Jeep does NOT handle poorly! I've had it for 6 years as my first car, and it has never given me any problems...so don't be dissin' the Jeep lol

For some reason I had assumed that you had a Wrangler in which case I would have to disagree with you. I haven't driven a Cherokee for a while but from what I can remember the late 90's cherokees handled okay. Either way a Jeep isn't meant to be a sports car so I wouldn't expect it to handle great...my truck handles like a truck and I am okay with that.

944 wheels and 911 wheels are interchangeable. Same part numbers.

The 944 series went to the late offset wheels in 1987, the 911 didn't until 1990.

No no, I've got a 99 Cherokee. Have never driven a Wrangler so I can't really compare the two. But I swear my Jeep has the soul of a sports car: it's nimble, quick off the line, and rides very smooth, even with the new lift.

Someone here posted a Ford Ranger PU with Fuchs maybe 2 years ago. Seemed silly to me.
I mean I love wire wheels, for example, but I wouldn't use them on a 911.

Well, ya know Milt, that CAN be done tastefully.

Haha well it's really just an idea at this point, along with the crazy idea of putting a 911 engine in a Jeep, but I don't have anywhere near enough money to do anything like that anytime in the forseeable future...unless I marry rich! lol

But yeah, seeing as Porsche 911s and Jeeps are my favourite cars, and I'm passionate about both, I think it'd be neat to put a set of Fuchs on a Jeep, it'd be done tastefully tho, of course. I probably wouldn't include the Porsche center caps...

But thanks for all the info guys!

Right now I'd just really like to get the bolt that broke out of my rear shock mount so I'm not riding around with a loose shock on my Jeep.

I think that thing needs a sticker that says "JC Whitney Motorsports"

A Jeep drive smooth? That'll be a first. Usually they beat your kidneys out over bumps!!!

i own a jeep (wrangler). it's lifted, has pro-comp shocks, mud terrain tires, etc... i have to say that it does handle excellently for what's it's designed for. On flat roads it's noisy, bumpy and cant' take a turn at more than about 10-20 mph. Yet off-road that thing is amazing. It handles incredibly well on dirt, mud, and snow. I've gone straight up hills, through rivers, etc... all w/o any issue. They do seem to drive much smoother on dirt than on pavement.

My point is that Jeep Wranglers do handle very well for what they were primarily designed (off-road use).

Here's a thought:

Take a side photo of your Jeep and have the Photoshop guys here do their magic. That way you can roughly see what they look like.
