Hello everybody, Noob here
Hey guys,
I been searching all over for just general information on my car and this seems to be a pretty good place. I bought my first porsche about a year ago (could not pass it up seemed like a good deal) I know quite a bit on fixing them myself and if I dont I know people I can ask I guess. So to the car. I bought a 1972 911t with a slight bit of body damage but other wise looks to be in pretty good condition. I am looking to restore it for a driver and hope you guys can maybe help me a bit along the way. well first of all I think after looking for some time I found a drivers fender for my car (the body damage) these things are pretty hard to find for a decent price. ![]() I dont wanna totally bore you guys to death with it cause I am sure ya have seen it a million times before on here but when I was driving it home I just kinda lost 2nd gear also. I know these transmissions are not that great and I will probably rebuild it but does anybody know what this may be or do you think it is in the transmission. I have already replaced that little bushing thing in the tunnel right behind the driver and passenger seat and it did not help. Anyway I am going to try and figure out how to get pictures up and I will post one and see what you guys can tell me and what you think. Thanks alot Ben |

The ball cup under the shifter is another common wear item in the shift linkage. More so than the coupler you replaced. I would do these kinds of things before I conclude that major surgery is needed on the transmission. Very possibly it is, but proper diagnosis would involve getting everything else adjusted and refurbished first.
Folks commonly want to paint Porsches in the colors they came with from the factory. Particularly cars of your vintage. The colors they used at that time are very much preferred among us Porsche folks. Many other colors are available, but those early cars look "right" when presented in their period colors. And also, if your car is any shade of official Porsche orange (could be Continental Orange, Signal Orange, Tangerine, etc), then it is a beautiful color. Or at least, it was. check those colors out. If you still don't like them, then paint your car any color you like. It's your car. There is, currently, a thread discussing colors here.

This is what I was talking about. Porsche colors from the late sixties and early seventies.

wow thanks guys for you fast input and help.
It actually feels like nothing is in the 2nd gear slot. with some effort I can get it into every other gear just not 2nd. Feels pretty sloppy too is this pretty normal for this type of car/ shifter? I know its old and all but dont know if it is susposed to feel this sloppy. Also several people advised aganist short shifter so I stayed away. I do have the ball socket thing but have not replaced it yet. Any idea where I can get the color code so I can figure out what color it is called. Thanks again guys
