ninesixfour,
I haven't decided exactly what I will do yet. It is for a race car, so the only muffler might be a small straight thru unit installed after each header flange, and exit straight out the rear. I have a system like that now attached to SSIs.

Im very happy with mine on my 3.2!
Good quality welds on stainless. No slag on the welds either.
They appear to be a complete knock of of George's.
I also used a Stainless Dynamax 2 in 2 out Muffler. With a custom Mapped Chip from Steve Wong, we hit 245hp at the flywheel on the dyno. No drop off in power around 5500 rpm like in stock trim. The car makes increases in hp through the redline. Minor mod made to one of the drivers side tubes (small crease) enabled me to use the stock oil lines. I've run about 1500 miles and 4 DE's with no damage or cracks present.
That likely has more to do with proper support of the muffler than anything else!

Certainly quieter than Flowmaster, and per their own flow testing, the Dynamax flows far more than Flowmaster. Fairly low key rumble at idle. The car has the typical annoying header drone, but only at around 2k rpm. If you cruise at or above 2500, much quieter. It's softest note, would be cruising at 2800-3000 rpm. At full throttle, it screams! Pretty loud on the outside, but quiter than you think riding on the inside. Many come up to me with compliments on the sound when I run at the track!

PM your regular address, and I can send you close ups of the headers & installation. There is absolutely NO cheaper way to go than this! OBX run $350, Dynamax Muffler is $180.

Wow that's by FAR the cheapest stainless header I've seen for a 911. Also what about clearance for removing the valve covers, changing oil lines, need for adapters...etc? I'm sure they've dynoed them for all their Honda, Mitsubishi, and other makes but what about some definitive data for the 911? Interesting...I'll shoot them an email and report back.

964~ Your car is far louder than mine... Funny thing is, when you drove back to the camera, then turned and let it idle... It sounded like a P-51 Mustang to me...:D

Thanks. I love the sound of my car but I know it's not the best setup for power. I would like to hear the Dynomax in person. Did you have a muffler shop fab some kind of adapter to attach the headers to the muffler?
PM sent.

those are nice looking but way to big to go on my 2.4, Maybe they can make smaller sizes. Im gonna call them.

Why would they be OK for 82-83 but not 78-81? All are 3.0L engines.

Dunno why my fingers didn't type what my head was telling them to. Meant 84-89 :o

Hi !

It's possible to find the same headers HERE

You can read numerous feedback about this product , and it seems to be good quality finally.

Just a regret that they not propose a version with heaters boxes.

Dynomax

Thanks for the Pictures ! That helped.

So this a Dynomax SS Dual Inlet / Outlet 17276 2.5" inside diameter.

I'm wondering if the Dynomax Turbo muffler with 2 1/4" ID would work with the OBX on a 2.2L. The Super Turbo is not SS and cheaper, just $125. I don't really car about the SS.

Nice job on you SS... and also sounds good !

Thanks
Engelbert

Has anyone fit a set of these headers to a 964 3.6L? If so please comment on level of difficulty, modifications, etc.

Thanks,

Noobie here, so please be patient with me and my dumb questions. I'd like to change the exhaust note a bit, and of course we are all looking for a little more power. So some questions .....

1. What are the ramifications of not having heat exchangers on a street driven car in stop and go situations?

2. Does anybody have dyno information that compares headers vs SSI vs stock exchangers?

hcoles 03-28-2008 07:04 AM

I'll throw out a quick response... there are threads full of answers to your questions.
1 - heater doesn't work, so you don't have heat... depending on your climate and tolerance for cold it is what it is
2 - look on the Steve Wong website and go over the charts... you may find an apples to apples comparison - you probably want to compare stock with cat out to whatever brand of headers and a dual in one out exhaust - if you read the threads... the real concrete info. is kept...and it is also easy to get a combination that doesn't work very well

No heat exchangers = no heater.

Stock set up = 207hp at the Fly wheel.
OBX header/ Dynomax muffler/ custom mapped SW Chip = 245hp at the Fly wheel.

alniki 04-18-2008 05:21 PM

Patrick,

A gain of 38hp in a 207hp engine equals an 18.35% improvement and it comes at a cost of less than $800!! I'd like to try it out myself!

Could you talk more about the Dynomax muffler? I've googled it but found not much info.
Is it a general-purpose muffler needing some custom brackets to hang onto the engine?
How about the pipes connecting the OBX to the Dynomax? Also custom made?

Go straight to the source! http://www.dynomax.com/
The muffler is their Stainless Steel Ultra Flow 2 in 2 out. It's one of their highest flowing mufflers, which is why I selected it. Steve Wong even commented that he felt my performance gains were helped dramatically by the high flow muffler. Go to a speed shop, or a muffler shop that does custom speed work! The custom bracket for the muffler, in addition to the custom pipes connecting the headers to the muffler was around ~$400. This is still FAR cheaper than the majority of after market muffler systems that are supposedly "bolt up." If you look at earlier pictures posted, you can see that this muffler is actually showing less than the stock OEM muffler!

saltieballz 04-22-2008 04:57 PM

ohhh yeah

I know i might be a little late on this, but would my 78 sc with 3.0 with 9.5:1 comp ratio benefit from a header this big? I have a cat bypass with stock exhaust right now (previous owner took off the b&b, said it was "too loud") If i would befefit, what size muffler should i use, any sugestions would be appreciated, im sooo lost...

Andy
