76 911 oil pump

I am looking at a replacement oil pump for my 76 2.7.
I,m told a 964 oil pump will fit.
Should i go ahead and buy a used one, $440 on ebay?

Cheers in advance.

I believe the 964 pump would require you to clearance your case. I the 3.2 pump is a drop in but you need to replace your sump pan to allow the screen to work.

I'd recommend the 3.2 pump as well. Just no point in anything bigger.

A 76 should have a 4 rib mag pump. The 3.2 pump is a 4 rib pump, but with a different pick up. If you get the later SC sump screen/can it will work just as well for your 2.7.

Using a 964 pump, like using a Turbo pump or a GT3 pump, not only requires clearancing (which isn't all that hard to do if you are determined to do it - hack saw and die grinder) and a shorter splined connecting tube from the IS shaft. Agree

I'm generally a fan of bigger oil pumps, however, there is such as thing as too much. And if you go with a bigger pump, you need to use that additional capacity to do something useful, not just dump more oil through the pressure relief valve back to the tank. Otherwise you're just wasting engine power to pump oil to nowhere. In my case, I used a turbo pump in my 3.2 build, but I also increased the sizes of the restrictors and feed holes to the pipes that squirt the cams and heads, to increase oil cooling capacity. If you don't do something like that, then stay with the 2.7 pump.
