Question Oil return tubes....

I'm in the process of replacing my oil return tubes with the collabsable tubes. I have read the Pelican article on this, but am still having difficulties in getting the tubes to expand. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

all red seals, with dow-corning 111 silicone paste. lube inside the tube and move it in and out until it slides well. green seals are difficult, black seals are impossible.

If your car has the smog pump and air injection system in place, I *think* you are going to have to drop down one of the heat exchangers. One of the quirks of the 78 and 79s.
If you are able to do it with both heat exchangers in place (and you have the pump and air injection lines) let me know, I'd be curious.

We just went through a similar thread about a week ago and now I am worried. I just put the steel OEM tubes in with green seals. Used Dow111 and could expand the tubes with easily! Does this mean possible leaks or am I worrying about nothing. Why were mine so easy and others hard?

Kurt, I'd say that you are just more of a man than Makaio.

Thumbs up

Just an update. I purchased some Dow-111 today, and it made it way easy to expand the tube. So Kurt, I don't think you are in trouble. So far I have not had to remove the heat exchangers, but I did have to un-hook the air injection lines to slide the first two tubes in, on the passengers side. Hopefully I will be able to get the other two in, on the drivers side this week.

Thanks for all the help, I wouldn't have been able to do it without your help.

the driver's side has the clearance problem. don't forget to install the fat tube toward the engine case.
