Intermediate shaft on early alu engines
I have intermediate shaft from 68 mag case and I red that first mag cases were without intermediate shaft bearings. As intermediate shaft on early aluminium engines run without bearings can I use that int med shaft from 1968 mag case or is there difference what vs used in aluminium cases? I was suprised that it is so difficult to find intermediate shaft and steel cover for alu cases so it seems to be necessary to buy case with "matching" intermediate shaft? Thx!
(just asking as sometimes early aluminium cases are sold without intermediate shaft) |

Will,
Welcome to the Forum. Both the ’65-’68 aluminum cases and the ’68-’69 magnesium cases can be converted to use two jackshaft bearings and then the later (and available) jackshaft. An easy and worthwhile mod, even if you aren’t align-boring the case. Best, Grady

Thx Grady!
I understood it's quite expensive machining needed if you convert to later stype with bearings, something like 700$ at least ? |
