How does this shifter work?
How does this work?
It looks like it only goes forward and back. Am I asking to be flamed here? ![]()

It is the gear selector for a sequential box. That bicycle brake looking lever on the side is to engage reverse. Pressure from you pulling or pushing on the shifter causes the clutch to disengage and the gear to be changed Pull back= upshift push forward =downshift

Not at all.
An automatic with "Tiptronic" buttons is just a regular old slushbox automatic, that is having its shifts triggered by the buttons. Like on an old automatic, where you could move the lever from D to 3, 2, or 1. "Tiptronic" is doing the same thing, but the signal is being sent to the automatic transmission electrically instead of mechanically. "Tiptronic" is just a fancy name and marketing gimmick. A sequential shift trans is a manual transmission being shifted "sequentially" like a motorcycle's transmission. |

I think NHRA pro stock cars use something similar.
