Top ten sports cars of all time?
What do you think?
Sports Car International is an automobile magazine in the United States focused on sports cars. It is unabashedly enthusiast-oriented, assuming a good knowledge of sports cars, racing, and automotive history. Editor Jay Lamm has worked at other publications, including Autoweek, and has written books on cars like the Mazda Miata. Recently, the magazine compiled a list of the Top Sports Cars of the last few decades. Would you change any of the choices or positions? The following list is their top ten of all time: All Time 1. Porsche 959 2. McLaren F1 3. Jaguar E-Type 4. Porsche Carrera GT SV 5. Mercedes-Benz 300SL 6. Porsche Carrera RS 6. Porsche 356 8. Porsche Carrera GT 9. AC 289 Cobra 10. Mazda MX-5 Five Porsche's on the top ten --- not bad!

Those guys don’t know jack. This is the ultimate sports car line up.
1. Ford Pinto (1970 was the best year. Vinyl top a must) 2. AMC Gremlin (Where’s the rest of your car man?) 3. Triumph Stag (Very nice) 4. Any Chrysler K-car (No, I don’t work for the government) 5. AMC Pacer (Car or aquarium? You be the judge) 6. Yugo (Almost as good as a used car) 7. Nash Metropolitan (my neighbor has one. She’s a f'ing B*tch) 8. Chevy SSR (WTF?) 9. VW Thing (Where’s my straight edge) 10. Edsel (Chrysler sucking a lemon) Unlike Porsches, you almost never see any of these cars on the road because collectors have snatched them all up.

Interesting no Ferrari showed up on the list? I haven't drive one, but might think an F40 or an Enzo would show up? Maybe a Ford GT 40 (new or old)?

I would certainly put the Ferrari F430 on that list; it's the easiest to drive exotic car on the market.
The problem is the criteria - if there are any? Best laps times, best car to drive around, best all-rounder? It's not really clear what they looking for? Funnest to drive?

I'd argue for the following entry over the Mazda!

It is a awful list with no discernable criteria beyond 4 wheels and (pretty much) not made in the USA..

Link to the magazine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_Car_International_Top_Sports_Cars Link to the lists in Wikpedia Criteria was stated as simply the editors opinions. We all know opinions are like noses, everybody has one. More fuel for the fire.

I would humbly add to the list the following, but for different reasons...
1. "46"-"50" MGTC - The MGTC started the whole import craze when USAF veterans brought them back to the U.S. A terrible car, but cute... 2. "54"-"56" Mercedes-Benz 300SL. A mile stone car 3. Certainly the Ferrari 250 GTO that was a grocery getter as well as a superb race car. 4. Porsche Speedster I think the criteria should be cars that raised the bar in styling and performance... I could name others, maybe the BMW 507, "E" Type Jag, BB Boxer...

I agree, the McLaren F1, Ferrari GTO, Lamborghini Miura, BMW M1, and an Aston Martin or two would have to round out my top 10, along with some of the Porsches already mentioned

There is a big difference between "classic" and "best" sports cars i.e a Lambo Countach is a classic but a b!tch to dive and live with versus a 911 Turbo which is comfortable, all weather, practical & FAST
my "favourites" in no particular order: 1. Ferrari 375 MM 2. Porsche 911 - 993 RS/CS 3. Aston Martin DB4 Zagato 4. Porsche 911 - 996 Turbo 5. Porsche Carrera GT 6. Ford GT40 8. Ferrari F-40 9. McLaren F1 10. Jaguar D type
