Question Regarding Tach

It was so long ago when my 73 911 T underwent it's first restoration that I'm forgetting some of the finer points that I knew about it back then.....I had the gauges back then done a nice white background by North Hollywood Speedo, but now I'm wanting to go back black and rather than redo the white back to black I'm just looking to buy black gauges.....

So here's the question, my car was fittted with a 3.0L fitted to a magnesium cased 915 ......will a stock1973 Tach work for this set up?....or do I need a SC Tach?

I thought I remember that I couldn't use the original 73 tach gauge because of the tach sending signal was diffferent for the motor versus the car. Is my memory incorrect and a 1973 tach will work just fine?

Maybe my memory is confusing the speedometer with the tach.....I maybe remembering that since the speedo is cable driven rather than an electronic signal that I couldn't use certain later year gauges......

Any help?
