Post Testing Regulator?

Does anyone know how to test a regulator and determine if it is doing what it is supposed to be doing?

the regulator controls the output of the alternator or generator. if the output @ 2500RPM is in the 13.8 to 14.2 range, and not less than 13.0 with all the electrical stuff on, it works ok. a cheap voltmeter on the battery will tell you this.
