How to separate 915 trans from 3.2?

Hi all,

I dropped the engine/transmission on my 85 3.2 last Saturday to replace the clutch and fix some leaks, etc. I'm having a hard time separating the trans from the engine. Are there any tricks to this? I seem to be able to get it separated about 1" and then nothing, it just won't budge. What am I missing?

Trying to remember when I separated my 3.0l and 915 and recall a similar problem. Seems to me I had to unhook the arm the connects the clutch cable to the throwout barring. If I remember correctly the "throwout barring arm" (??) is connected to the transmission and the throwout barring is connected to the flywheel. I think if you push the arm parallel to the flywheel deeper into the bell housing, that releases the spring clip from the ball on the transmission and you are good to go!

But, that was a couple of years ago that I did this, your millage may vary.

remove the short release arm below the bellhousing first.

John, are you talking about the short adjusting lever or the longer release lever? I have the short lever removed and still nothing.

then pop the long lever toward the end of the trans. the one with the big C shaped spring on it. big screwdriver.

Hmmm, me thinks I need a larger lever. Thanks, I'll give it a try this evening.

Thanks John, I just needed a little more leverage to pop it forward. It came off with ease then.
