Electrical Problems?

I am having intermittent problems with my '77 Carrera. On some occasions it will not start, (turns over but will not fire). at other times the electric windows will not operate, when I am having these problems the car also develops a miss at about 4000rpm.When all the electrics are operating properly the miss at 4000rpm disappears. One auto elec has suggested that the ignition switch is playing up. What are the thoughts you guys out there? HELP.

Check the easy things first- corrosion on the battery terminals, bad grounds (may take a while due to the number around the car), corrosion on fuse contacts, etc. If that does not work, maybe cracked wire insulation?

Electrical faults, especially wandering/intermitent ones take a lot of time, looking, and testing work.

Best of luck.

Gremlins............

Check the fuel pump relay fuse for proper seating and connectivity. If the fp is not getting proper power it will cause many of your symptoms. The windows are probably a second issue. If you find that the fuel pump relay fuse socket is discolored or distorted from heat then you are probably on the right track. Good luck with your project!
