Question Wipers Don't Return to Park, HELP

Looking for help.

Starting raining while I was out driving. And my wipers no longer return to the park position. So I started doing some research. My intermittent wipers also don't work. Have no power to the "15" Red @ the intermittent wiper switch.

I've had my hands in behind the dash. Working on the seat belt/parking brake light. Installing a fog light switch. And installing a new fresh air dash center vent.

I assume I've knocked something loose. Or unhooked something. Where do they all come together ? Where I could knock something loose? And where is the intermittent wiper relay? Haynes say's they come together @ connector T6c. Where is that located? The harness heads off toward the back of the glovebox. TIA

Have you checked your fuses? My former car did the same thing once and that was due to a faulty fuse.

it's the parking points in the wiper switch. once you have the switch removed, (you can leave the wiring connected) the two parking points can be tweeked a bit so they close and make contact with each other with the switch off.

Thanks, Mikkel. That was my first thought also.

John, looking at the schematic and reading the service manual. The wiper motor has to be in the PARK position for the intermittent relay to work ?

TIA

wipers must park by way of the closed wiper switch contacts for the intermittents to function. about 1% of the time, the parking circuit in the wiper motor is the culprit.

Question

Well I have the wheel off and the wiper switch in my hand. What am I looking for ?
Is the block with the 4 contacts hanging out of it the park switch ?
I've cleaned them. Separated them as best I could. But still no park. I tinkered with them once and it went into park in the high position. So think I'm close.
With the wiper in the off position the block slides in between the 4 contacts and brings them together.
What is the blue wire for ?
TIA

the two points nearest the moving block need to contact with the switch off.

Question

John, I just replaced the wiper switch with a new one. And still no park or interval wiper. From my reading of the schematic in the Bentley Manual.

Looks to me, the "blue" wire on the switch is the "park" wire ( top contact on the block ). Has no continuity to ground unless the switch is in the off position. And the wipers will work with the blue unplugged from the wiper motor.
My reading, leaves the switch as blue. Comes out the relay as blue/white and into the wiper motor. The open/close signal works all the way to the wiper motor.

What do you think ? Are the contacts in the wiper motor adjustable ?
Can I put the steering wheel back on without having to take it off again ?

One more thing. Last week when I was working on this. The wiper motor seemed awfully warm to the touch.

TIA

Cary,

Looking at the wiring diagram, there is a cam which operates to bring the wipers back into the park position. Terminal 53e and 53a on the cam block should have continuity through it to cause the wiper motor to run until the wipers are in the park position. Terminal 6c provides power to the cam when the wiper motor switch is in the off position.

The motor will continue to run, turning the cam until it reaches the position to open the terminal between 53e and 53a thus terminating the power to the motor and stopping the motor when the wipers are in the park position.

Hope this info helps.

Steve
