After installing my new CD head unit on my 88, I noticed, as I was neatening up all the wires under the dash, a connector that appears to have nothing to connect to. It's coming out of the same bundle of wiring that houses the four factory speaker leads for the head unit (they connect to four other speaker wires that go to the underseat factory amplifier). It's not for the cruise control, doesn't plug into the center console brain or anywhere else that I can see. It's almost directly under the radio, but more on the passenger side of the car. Ideas?

Did you ever figure out what the extra connector under the drivers seat was? I was under my drivers seat today and I noticed and extra connector. Under the protective rubber the wire is blue?
I've got 4 way, and heat on both driver and passenger seats? ------------------ Dan Tolley 1987 911 Coupe http://www.cheaterswayside.com/911/gallery.asp?sort=0&userid=294 |

Nope, still mystified over that one, too. Wonder what would happen if I wired it to the one under the radio? Maybe there's an extra 100 horsepower hidden there!

I think that goes to the flux capacitor..no, wait, it's the warp plasma conduit interface-no that's not right. Damn, better ask Scotty (aka Warren). :>

Does the mystery wire have a connector or is it bare? It would help to know. One thing that came to my mind is the radio antenna lead (should have a coaxial type, possibly right-angle, male connector). Another idea is the switched power lead for the radio. However, if your radio works and receives signal then I guess these suggestions are useless...
Are you using the factory under-seat amp or is the head unit providing its own power? Does the stock center console fader dial (Rear-to-Front balance) work? If any of that is bypassed in favor of yielding control to the head unit, than maybe the wire is related to disconnected components in the circuit. ------------------ Roger '85 Carrera 3.2 Coupe aka "Sputterbug" http://sputterbug.com |

Anyway to get a picture? It may be a ground that attached to the radio's din housing? Is it a single connector and a green wire?

It's has a connector ... four prongs, if I remember correclty. It's not the antenna lead or the antenna amp lead; I connected those to the radio, nor is it the DIN plug to the amp from the old Blaupunkt.
Interesting thought that it could be to the old fader control on the central console; the 88 Carrera doesn't have that feature. Maybe it's a remnant from the pre-88 wiring harness since it comes out of the same wrapped bundle as the speaker wires. Vic 88 Carrera |

JDaniel-
The extra connector under the seat could be for the 6-way power seat option. -EJ |
