Replace points in 77 2.7 cis

I want to replace the points in my 77 2.7 cis 911. Looking in catalogs, I either need the Ignitor or the Crane Fireball.

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

i use Pertronix 1867

i used a connector block instead of soldering for future quick r&r

some pelicanheads say it'll burn out if ignition is left on for an extended time without engine running. I carry a spare anyway. I don't trust anything electrical being failsafe.

other units, crane etc are successfuly used by pelicanheads.

I just installed the pertronix in my '77 911s last week. I was a little confused with the instructions they sent in the box with the ignitor. But a quick search of the forums led me here:

http://www.pertronix.com/support/tips/pdf/porsche_cd_diagram.pdf

After I found these installation instructions, the rest was pretty simple. The car has run great since the install.

WHY remove the contact points the only act as trigger for electronic ignition box . just set dwell and you are on your way! the contact set rarely ever pit or fail with recommended maintenance DONT WAIST your time / money !!!!!!!! you will kick your self Took me a day to remove that junk. PORSCHE /dizzy parts are avalible at all parts stores . try buying parts for that junk dont mess with it.

pertronix

I have a 74 2.7, and replaced my points five years ago.with a pertronix unit. it has worked perfectly so far. it was a big improvement over the points.

Pelican sells it.

I've had mine installed for about six years now - no problems.

Points were a mystery to me.

different strokes on what to install.. and most likely it's not necessary, Pertronix is actually more sensitive to burning out than points discounting wear and tear.

anyway here's my connector block for when mine do burn out.

Stock looking wire covering is dual wall shrink tube from www.waytekwire.com.

The connector block is from West Marine and mfg by Blue Sea Systems. I use dielectric.

I use a crane cams that the PO included with a box of parts for the car. It worked fine and took 45 minutes with painstakingly slow instructions-following.

A nice cleanup of the circuits like Ronin's panel is a good idea.

Here's mine
