964 Carrera 4 downsides?
I ready to add a second 911 to my garage. Its a 94 Carrera 4 factory widebody with about 80k miles on it. What am I looking at in terms of additional maintenance and longevity with a 4 versus a 2? Thanks.

Looking into the 964 the only issue I found with the 4 is the all drive factor and its more costly to maintain. A PPI would tell if its been maintained well, make sure you check the heads on these cars for the issue they had with the gaskets

Also rennlist's 964 section holds a wealth of knowledge on these cars.

The widebodys are a very limited edition and collectible as you probably know.
There is a website dedicated to them exclusively, can't remember the address though, sorry. I think they are very cool and will retain their value.

The all wheel drive parts will wear so it will be more expensive to maintain (some bits are stupidly expensive).
The 4 is heavier and to track it you'll need to spend more to make it perform. My opinion is that unless you live in a place that need an all wheel drive...

The 964 C4 is highly complex compared to a 993 C4 driveline. You'd be wise to consider the 993 instead if you really want all wheel drive. To bleed the brakes on a 964 C4, I understand you need the Bosch Hammer since the brake hydraulic system is associated with the electrohydraulic (that sounds expensive, doesn't it?) all wheel drive system
![]() A C2 is more familiar to the older 911 owner. Since you're in San Diego? Forget the C4. Get a C2 if you want a 964. You'll thank yourself for getting a C2, considering the handling differences.

As has been said, some of the AWD bits are stupid expensive. I believe the accelerometers are $2K new, though some have success cleaning/repairing them if they go out.
But the 94 is well sorted, and widebody is nice. If the PPI checks out, you have good records on brake fluid being religiously changed, I'd roll the dice.
