driver side mirror broke - how to replace?

While washing, the mirror separated from the backing and broke. I bought the replacement mirror/backing component - but haven't found out how to replace it? Before breaking something else and after searching 10 times through pelican threads....I have to suck up my pride....Please help!

Is there a hex bolt to remove, do I have to disassemble the who side view mirror?

Oh yeah...1989 911 Carrera electric mirror....

There were two types of mirror as far as the glass attachment goes.

The older ones have three metal snap type posts glued to the back of the glass.

Newer ones have a large flat black plastic ring that mates with a similar recess in the mirror.

The plug-in type is pretty obvious. The rotating ring is a bit more subtle, but there are many posts here that show how.

Which type do you have?

This is the post you should have found from your search -

Flag Mirror Help

It pretty much says it all.

Glad it worked out. I got into this whole topic when I added a used right side mirror to my car and ended up with the newer type, which was a mystery to me.

So that thread was a big help to me as well.
