Fuchs wheels were extremely advanced for their time, in terms of lightness and strength. They were forged, for one thing, rather than cast or built-up. A quarter-century later there are even stronger and lighter wheels, but people who prize originality rather than simply putting the bling flavor of the week on their '70s and '80s cars gravitate to the Fuchs wheels. They're the Real Deal, for one thing, and very good, for another.
Which is why mid-year 911s with stuff like chromed BBSes look so...tacky.
