During an SSI install...What else should I inspect?

As I'm getting prepared to replace my exhaust system w/SSI's & a Dansk muffler (arriving today..yeah!) what other inspection / maintenance checks should I be doing at this time?

I've been having problems with the heating system, so I plan on looking into the origin of that problem...but is there any other major items I should be checking while I have the car apart?

A very good time to replace the right and left heater valves if they are rusty or stick. I think they run around $100 each. Grease up the cables and check your oil lines and tank.
You're gonna love that exhaust system! The SSIs have excellent heat exchangers.
There's a bunch of engine, transaxle, and suspension stuff you can look at while your down there. I'd take a peak at everything.

This is a great time to change the oil return tubes with the expadable ones (see pelican tech article) and replace your leaking oil sump plate gasket (this actually can be done with them on too). Also good access to change the o-ring on the engine oil cooler. Also a good time to do Carrera chain tensioners and new chain rails if you have not already...as you will have the muffler off. If you break a stud...let me know and I can loan you my drilling jigs.
Make sure you replace with plenty of anti-sieze and torque to 16 ft lbs on the studs (the ones you can get a torque wrench on..that is)

Good choice on the Dansk...its awesome!
You can see a pic of mine by clicking on the link in my signature below.

Good Luck.
Nick.

Cool

Thanks guys...I've been reading all of the posts from both of you regarding SSI's & Dansk.

Rarly, I'll do the heater valves as you suggest...thanks for the encouragement it helped to know others who have actually done the conversion were very satisfied.

Nickshu, I got the Dansk without the pipes attached because of your helpful info. Big thanks (I think it was you who beat me out on the Ebay bid for the SSI's from Europroducts though!)

Should have the upgrade done this weekend & I'll setup some pics for viewing on the gallery...and I should be able to add a .wav file with how they sound for anybody else considering this setup.
