dizzy redneck cap temp fix ... rpm problem ...
Ok,
I'm still dealing with hibernation wakeup problems. ![]() Gas seemed to have spoiled but I don't think that it was the main problem. Anyway, filled the car with gas, waited for the car wash and the dam thing just decided to stall while waiting. Of course, it decided that it doesn't want to start. check pop off, of course off -- plug it back on Still NO turn over on crank Check fuses ... seems like normal (at the moment it was) pulled the dizzy and then noticed that all contact points were corroded. I wanted to get home, I only live about a mile away from the gas stand. So, I borrowed some sand paper and sanded away ... What are the consequences to this temp fix ??? Anyway, still no crank over ... decided to give the fuse panel another once over. dam... my fuses look like they have been in there since 82' ![]() I rolled them around a bit, moved a similar size into the fuel injector location ... still no luck ... Finally noticed that my power lines going into the block were corroded so bad that maybe only 5 strands or so were providing current. Even those lines are very brittle. Gonna go cut and re-insert those wires ![]() Seems like this was the culprit ... ![]() However, I'm still having heavy shifting rpm drops that kill off the engine. This is getting pretty wacky, driving on the highway and shift into 5th which is a far reach and clutch impression time is longer so while I'm fiddling with 5th gear placement the dam car decides that hey I don't need it running. Pop the clutch and gurgle back to speed .... Get the similar thing with dropping into 2nd gear for a light or a 90 degree corner turn ... same routine ... pop the clutch ... Second tank of gas plus close to a half gallon of gas cleaner additive ... so I don't think it's stale gas or water anymore ... Am I missing something ?

Sounds like you need a major tune-up and a closer look at all components and wirering.
![]() What kind of pop-off valve is this? They normally close by themselves (Spring-loaded)

I have seen some that do not seat them self very well. It appears that you have a lot of different things to either check and or replace. How long did you say it was stored for?

Forgot to mention, the little bit of clean-up on the points with the sandpaper should not pose any problems that you probably are going to have to replace anyway. It is fairly common for the points to be "cleaned up" without any real problems coming from that. I was going to ask if you had the car stored where the climate could cause corrosion from just sitting there. Then I remembered your name. Needs no further explanation of the climate.
