help, lost fiberglass tail and deck lid

fiberglass deck lid and tail broke off today.i am 800 miles from home and was wondering if it would hurt anything driving the car home with an open engine bay? help!-------------------------------------driving from san mateo ca to phoenix az. thanks

I can't imagine unless it rains or worse. A lot of v-dubs I knew in high school used to run with the lids off all the time

If you want to stop by here on the way (don't know how "on your way" it is) I have a spare decklid you can borrow at least. No spoiler and it wouldn't match your car color-wise probably, but might be better than nothing. . .

What a bummer,
how the heck did that happen?

Those things are hinged pretty decently, latched at the bottom(when closed) and also attached by the hydralic shocks.

block of 2x4 off the top of a truck in front of me hit it right on the end of the wing.ripped the threads right out of the fiberglass,at the hinges.all four bolts pulled out.

made it home safe and sound.car ran like a champ,althought it was a very hard drive with all that draft into the engine bay.i do not want to do that ever again. thanks for the help and the laughs. you guys are truely a good family to be a part of!!!!!!!! again, THANKS.

i drove without a lid on for about a week, it was all good, just make sure its not going to be raining...
