Help - Stolen Dme

Hello to all forum members.

Last night my DME was stolen from my car
My car is a 1988 (German market) 3.2 coupe w/o OS sensor.
So when I was search in the net to find a repalcement as the delear price is sky rocket I found these for sale :

1) Porsche part # 911. 618. 111. 05
2) Porsche part# 911.618.111.09

Is any of the above correct for my car ?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Sorry to hear that, but the good news is you use the same DME as US 930.25 cars

911.618.111.20

Oh my, did they actually steal it from under the seat or was it out for servicing?

A German market 88 Carrera would normally be the same as a North American market car (930/25) with O2 sensor and cat. The correct DME would be the 911.618.111.20 as Bill stated. However, there are also many ROW Carreras in Europe, and if it did not come with an O2 sensor, then it most likely would be a higher compression ROW 930/20 motor. The corresponding DME in that case would be 911.618.111.18, 911.618.111.19, xxx.15, or xxx.17. Look at the manufacturing sticker under your front trunk lid, and looking under engine type, it should say either 930/25 or 930/20.

That said, you should be able to pretty much use any DME for your car. The only difference is a NA DME has the additional circuitry to recognize an O2 sensor, and if a ROW chip were installed in it, it would be effectively a ROW DME. Of the two units you have located, the xxx.05 unit would be the best match for a 930/25 motor, and the xxx.09 unit for a ROW 930/21 motor. The difference with the units you've located is that they use 24 pin chips, vs the later units with 28 pins. For the ROW cars, they make absolutely no difference in performance, as the programming is the same, however on NA cars, the chips can be updated to the later programming to be effectively equivalent identical.

That really SUCKS!!! Now in addition to all of the rest of the worries that we might have with our cars, now we also have to watch out for the damn DME stealing bastards!
Almost reminds me of the air bag theft ring around the "Big Apple" that made millions off of stolen air bags. They could get in and out with the air bag in less than 3 min. They were good!

I recently read that thieves are stealing gas out of SUV tanks, and not by siphoning it through the filler but by power-drilling a hole near the top of the tank (or hell, maybe at the bottom of the tank) because the tanks are partially exposed on many SUVs. So you not only lose $100 worth of gas but a $1,000 tank.

very sorry for your theft!

I'm willing to bet it was some young thug thinking he got away with a nice radio amp; maybe they'll return it; I had a crossover stolen once and it was recovered a block down the street when they realized it wasn't a radio or an amp.
