Question Cat Bypass Pipe.... Fabspeed or Schnell Elite??

I have a stock '88 Carrera and I'm thinking of getting a by-pass pipe and a chip. Going with the Steve Wong chip but not sure about the pipe. Anyone have suggestions or experience with the two?..... Thanks!

I have the Schnell. No issues, installation was easy.

Doesn't matter, but I've heard that the fabspeed (and maybe the GHL) look more like cats, and if you have emission testing they would probably pass a visual, whereas the straight pipe definitely will not.

I personally like the GHL products, although our customers like FabSpeed too.

I don't know where FabSpeed's stuff is manufactured, there is some debate on this. GHL (last I heard) makes all of their stuff here in the US (Arizona, if I remember correctly). I believe the Schnell stuff is Asia-manufactured, but I'm not 100% sure.

I had the FabSpeed on my previous car ('89 3.2L) a couple of years ago and was very happy with the quality of the part and the order/shipment process from our host. The cat bypass both deepened the exhaust note and also decreased the "blast furnace effect" of heat from the cat coming from the left rear fender area.

Regards,
David

fabspeed no good

Perhaps the people at Fabspeed "cleaned up their act" or sold the company towhom practices business in an ethical manner?? When I purchased a brand new Fabspeed muffler for 930 coupe about five years ago the weld at the turbo-flange cracked after very first drive and then continued to spider-crack all thruoghout the inlet of muffler. Took pics , called and notified the owner of Fabspeed , etc. He did NOTHING to remedy or replace or compensate me! He just stopped responding to numerous phone calls and e-mails and offered nothing , so I just let him know I would describe my purchasing experience whenevr I got the opportunity!

GHL MAKES ALL THERE PRODUCT IN GOOD OLD MESA AZ. brian and jeff gerber just used my car to rejig their jigs after they moved from one building to another. ie. angle of dangle was off. my headers 2in 2 out are a WORK OF ART! happy as hell! cant say enough how jeff and brian bent over backwards to make things right. to the point jeff drove to my house across town(i live outside of nowhere) to drop off a gasket they were short on when i picked system up.

numero uno product.

numero uno people!

I do not recommend Fabspeed products. They are a very unethical business. Go with GHL, Dansk, Bursch, or perhaps Schnell.

I have a B&B, and it's fine. I bought it used, so I didn't have to suffer their standard pricing schedule...

I bought and installed the Fabspeed unit maybe 5 years ago on the '84 Carrera. It is very well made and I had a good experience with the purchase. I also purchased another piece(an intake part), couldn't use it and Tony took it back no questions.

Thank you for all your responses!
Has anyone heard of the Maxspeed Motorsports pipe on e-bay? They claim the quality is "exceptional"

You know, I was looking at those as well. You can also buy them from their website.

I was going to buy that one but I decided on a used fabspeed instead....only for the resale value in case I don't like it. If the used one hadn't come up I would have bought that one. The build quality looks nice and the only difference I see is where the O2 sensor is mounted.

I have the Fabspeed. The flange holes are way over-sized so you have to visually line up the exhaust ports as best as you can or you will end up with a step in the exhaust flow. Weighs a lot too because it's heavy gauge and appears very rugged.

Does Anyone know how the internals of the Schnell Elite is setup, is it like the Fabspeed or just a straight pipe with that Cat Like housing around it?

Pics or Diagram?

For my '85 911 I bought a Schnell and it didn't fit right at all. I returned it and bought a GHL and it was perfect. I liked them so much I got GHL headers and exhaust for my 930. GHL all the way IMO....

Can't speak about the others but I have the fabspeed and it went on easy, looks fantastic and sounds great. You can't go wrong. Not sure about some of the negative comments. They seemed like pretty good guys to me and the bypass looks like a work of art.

The bypass pipe is really a pretty basic piece of steel. I would buy the cheapest since your not going to see a lot of performance difference from any of them.

This is what I did for the Schnell. It didn't fit at all, I mean not even close, and it ended up costing me more in the long run. Shipping costs, gaskets, and a lot of time scratching my head trying to figure out what happened.

Check out the difference...
