I'm getting closer to getting the MFI dialed in on my 72 911E. I went completely thru the Porsche Check, Measure and Adjust manual. However, I end up with an idle of 1300 rpm. When I screw in the air correction screws to get the idle down to 950 I have a strange problem. With the car completely cold or completly warmed up it idles fine. In between, say 110 degrees to around 170 degrees it will not idle at 950 rpm. The engine just dies. Reset the idle anywhere between 1200 to 1300 rpm and no problem. One thought, my hand throttle does not work. Do you need to keep the idle up around 1300 until the car is warmed up? Thanks for any and all suggestions.

yes indeed, that's what the hand throttle is for.

Shouldn't the warm up thermostat take care of that? I wouldn't think you should use the hand throttle at all.

sounds strange...my 69S needs hand throttle when cold or it won't run at all.Once warm, you don't need it. I think it's supposed to work this way. These are difficult systems to deal with...Good luck..

They're not THAT difficult!
It idles nicely when cold because it's getting fuel dumped into it firstly fron the enrichment solenoid, and then from the thermostat with the ()()()()() washers. I imagine that there is a hole in the fuel delivery (a deficit) during the transition from these systems kicking out and the engine itself warming up properly. To cut a long explanatory story short, USE THE HAND THROTTLE! As John says, that's what it was designed for! It's simple and effective, and it certainly wouldn't be there if it wasn't needed. What does it require to fix it? Usually it's the plastic coupler that disintegrates by the handbrake. Check past threads for much talk on this. ------------------ '72 911 TE |
