My switch is leaking from the top seam. I can get my 24mm wrench on it. Because I have a K & N air filter set up.
Can I get it out of there without a disaster ? Will the spacer come loose and give me problems ? Have DE event this weekend and would like to stop the leak. TIA ------------------ Cary Kutter 77 Euro Carrera w/3.2 Rennlist Member PCA Region - Big Sky |

The switch should come out just fine by itself. I've done this particular operation on my '80 SC several times. When I took my engine out last fall, I checked to make sure that everything was still nice and snug, and it was.

My oil pressure switch was leaking, too. I could not get a wrench on it, so I tried to remove it by gripping the can and turning that. The can spun around without loosening the fitting into the top of the engine. I had to tear the can apart to get to the switch itself and turn that with my Channel-Lock pliers. Obviously, I had a new switch on hand before I started.

Cary,
The switch union/adaptor fitting that goes into the case should have been put in place with red loctite. The switch should definitely come free before the adaptor fitting loosens. But you never know. I would have simply put on a new seal washer and snugged down the fitting if I didn't have the Carrera repair manual microfiche to refer to when I did mine this winter. ------------------ Kevin 87 Carrera |

I replaced mine two weekends ago on a 74'. Used a deep 1/2 drive socket on an extension. The adapter came out with the pressure sensor. I reassembled on the bench and put the whole thing back in the same way. Worked like a champ and took about 1/2 hour.
