Where to buy 8/32 R&P?

Where can one source an 8/32 "sport" ring and pinion for a for an '88 G50 5 speed from?

This would seem a popular part, but I can't seem to find it listed on our host's or others sites. Any ideas who to call?

I know it seems like a good cost effective gearing solution for the G50-01 but I strongly recommend against that ring and pinion. That particular R/P set was designed as a motorsports item with a 50 hour track life. While it will get significantly more life on a street car or in a DE vehicle, it's still going to have a compromised lifespan. I've seen brand new factory R/P's (which is what Guard sells) only give a couple of years of service before they start to howl and need to be replaced. And by all means, avoid a used one. I've never seen a "good used" 4.00 5spd R/P no matter what the ad says!

I would suggest that even though it will cost you a bit more up front, regearing your tranny to you desired ratios will last you longer. It will also give you the option to keep your 5th taller if your car still sees highway usage. It also means you can keep your stock 1st gear where it is, and build your other ratios around it. It's definitely personal preference, but many people find that the 8:32 with a stock G50 1st is too short even though they love what it does to 2-3-4. You can achieve the same with proper gearing, and get greater lifespan. Not only is your stock R/P a more durable piece, but keeping your pinion speed down increases the lifespan of the other components at the same time.

Feel free to drop me a line if you'd like to discuss it further. I'd be happy to run some charts for you and weigh the pluses and minuses of various ratios...
