Question Engine will turn but not start

OK I have my 2.7 back in the car, after 7 months. Everything is hooked back up (properly I hope )

When I turn the key the engine turns over with no wierd noises - This I am very happy about.

But the engine doesn't start, I am pretty sure it is getting fuel, although I do not smell a strong odour even after 6 attempts.(The tank is half full) What is the best way to check for spark? can I use a test light on the coil?

Also to be double sure, which wire goes to where on the coil? It is a bosch coil.

Thanks in advance all opinions are appreciated

Shawn

To check for spark, see the thread below:

I believe the middle wire on the distributor should go on the coil. Good luck.

PLEASE HELP ME I have NO SPARK!

My wife came home and with 2 sets of hands I was able to check. Also there is NO POWER going to the coil when the key is turned to start the engine. I checked both with a test light (I know one is a ground) but checked both.

What is the next logical place to look ?

I am still happy, I am getting closer to driving it, I can feel it

Also what I am wondering is where do the two wires go on the coil? There is a - symbol on th coil for the ground wire correct? The other side would be for the positive obviously?

I have checked the leads going to the CDI the middle one (RED) colour is hot when the key is on. The other two (white) show no power even when it is attached and the key is in the START popsition. Actually the whole CDI harness can be turned over and it fits, will this create a problem if I have reversed them?

Anyone know how to test the CDI? I actually have two, one Perme-tune and a Bosch, it is the same situation with both so I don't guarantee its that but want to check.

Thanks again
Shawn

OK I also found that the BROWN wire that is attached to the harness for the 14 pin connector is not hooked up. Where does this go? I know it is a ground but I don't want to just go fitting things.

I have tested my CDI boxes as per the Perma-tune site. The Perma tune one was good, from both the A-D terminal and the B-C terminal. The Bosch was bad from A-D, good B-C so I am using only th Perma-tune.

I have cleaned and re-installed the 14 pin connector- BROWN WIRE STILL LOOSE?

There is still NO spark. I am at a loss so I have to try eveything.

Is there a way to jump direct from the box to the coil? How can I test to see if it is the wires?

HELP

Shawn

Sounds like it may be a bad CD box or a bad coil. Borrow a working setup from a friend or a shop, and test them both. That's how most shops do it...

Thanks Wayne.

The biggest problem here is that I am in Eastern Canada- NO Porsches-well very few.

I would hate to buy a new CDI and that not be the problem, I was thinking that since I bench tested both the coil and the CDI and both passed. That it was the wiring?

I want to find out how to test the wiring.....direct from box to coil? Also I am still curious to which side the wires go on the coil???? -Stupid I know.

Thanks everyone for the emails and posts so far.

Shawn
