New noise. Whirrrrr hummmmmmmmmm

New noise appeared today that I've never heard before. I noticed it after Autocross.

Coming front the front, near the fuel tank. A loud hum with a slight, slow oscillation. Does not seem to be affected by engine speed. Definately from the front, and it sounds like it's from the right side...perhaps under the right front fender?
Only happens when car is running.
At first, I thought it was the A/C as there is a similar noise when the A/C is running....bu then I noticed the A/C was not running....
No heater on, no A/C running....

I don't know where the fuel pump is, but that's my first thoughts...
If it is....I did NOT notice any acceleration or stumbling issues.

Any ideas? I might have captured this sound on the in-car camera....I'll check and post a clip if so....

edit

Well, after eading quie a bit, I'm convinced it's the fuel pump.
Blast it. Finally new shocks and alignment, and the pump wants to poop itself.

Oh well.

The new shocks and alignment made a HUGE improvement on handling at Autocross today.

Wolfe, the pump can get quite noisy before it has to be replaced.

Try cleaning the strainer at the bottom of the fuel tank before you do anything else. The mesh is really fine, and after many years it gets varnished and partially clogged, causing the pump to cavitate.

The audio warning signal is a plus, no?

You could have been stranded high and dry in the hinterlands. Instead, you'll be stranded at home. That's relatively better. There's no place like home.

I'll have to get that looked at, thanks. As for touching it myself, hell no. I tend to have rather bad static eletricity problems...I throw random sparks for no reason.

The Audio warning is nice, yes!
