Post Need help

I purchased parts from a person who advertised in the classified section. I paid for the parts but never received them. Does anyone know of a PI or Collection Agency in the Nan Nuys area that could help me recover my parts or money. The web is great but sometimes difficult doing business from 2000 miles away. Has anyone else ever been stung?

Being on both sides of the sales system (buying and selling), I prefer to use credit cards for transactions, since they give you some security if the seller doesn't deliver. When I sell parts, I use PayPal which accepts credit cards from the buyer...again some level of comfort there.

When I've sold parts, I always sent the buyer the tracking number as soon as I ship, so both of us can keep an eye on the package. If the seller doesn't want to do that, it would raise a red flag to me.

I would love to publish his name but I fear if this person still reads this BBS I may never see parts or money. I do however wish to protect other owners from the same fate. Catch 22. Email me if you want more info.

Private individual could not take credit cards or paypal. I guess I had my red flag around my redneck. I've learned my lesson.

There are several options for private individuals to accept credit cards now! The popularity of eBay has created a demand for it. I know several private sellers that accept credit card payments.

Yes, you can get taken very easily at eBay, and anytime you are dealing with individuals at a remote location! I have suffered several small losses from eBay purchases in the $10-$50 range, and there is nothing eBay will do about it!

That is really a shame I have both bought and sold parts through the bulletin boards and figured from one car guy to another there should be some trust. I would never take someones cash and not deliver the parts, I sold a set of wheels through this board and was paid in advance before shipping the parts, another option would be to have them ship the parts COD. Sorry you are havin trouble with your long distance purchase I guess I have been lucky in the past. It really is a shame when you cant trust your fellow Porsche enthusiast.

Warren,
I think eBay purchases over $25 are insured. You may be able to get some of your money back. I know because I bought a fender for a friend and it came out to only $24 (firebird fender) but since it was under $25 I was SOL (sh** out of luck).

I did not purchase these parts on ebay although I have done so with great success. I have also purchased from this BBS and again with great success. I have met many Porsche enthusiasts and they have always been very nice honest people. I guess I was lulled into a false sense of security.

targasaver, if he had wanted to establish an individual account with PayPal (as I have, this is only a hobby and not a business), he could have. Transactions up to $100/mo is free, above that is 2.2% fee (still not bad).

Targasaver,
I like to give the benefit of the doubt to every situation (get stung like this sometimes). Because of this, I ask, did this person you purchased parts from blatently tell you that they were not going to sent you the parts or have they just not responded to you?

One other thing that sometimes happens is that customs (you are in Canada and most people on this board are Americans) holds the package for whatever reason.

And finally, I admit that on occasion I don't get around to sending packages as quickly as I hope to (this is incredibly embarassing) but it does happen.

I truly hope that this is only a misunderstanding as I have on more than one occasion trusted people on here without getting burned.

Good luck, I'm sure it'll work out for you!

While we're on this topic -
Adam, did you receive my bank check for the CIS parts? If not let me know and I'll call the post office and see what the problem is. I don't even know what pay pal is. The internet makes me nervous enough without involving bank accounts and credit card numbers.

Adam
I had contact from him stating he had everything boxed and ready to go and would ship the next day. 3 weeks later I was able to reach him and he appologised and asked if I could arrange to have them picked up. I made the arrangements but was unable to contact him again. That was 1 month ago.
