Synthetic Vs. Regular
I have recently rebuilt my 2.2 T engine (weber carbs, solex cams) and am getting it ready to fire up. What kind of oil should i put in it??? It is from 1970, and a rebuilt engine. So wht do some of the experts have to say about this: Synthetic Vs. Regular oil.

Hi; I just fired my rebuilt 70 911E 3 days ago.
I was under the impression that you did NOT want to use a synt oil until your rings have had a chance to break in. So, I used a regular plain-jane oil. Anyway, it will save you some money since you have to change your oil after 1000m. However, after the specified break-in, I do intend to load her up with Mobil 1. Jace. |

All of the Porsche mechanics I know recommend regular high quality oil in rebuilt engines for break in.Valvoline 20/50 is a good choice.

according to mobil, the oil has gone through reformulations. Apparently the oil in the past was too slippery to allow the rings to seat. Todays synthetic(mobil 1) allows for the motor to be broken in. Which explains why the corvette and porsche motors are broken in using synthetic.
